Philippines-Indonesia Historical connections on cannons.
Last Sunday, I delivered a lecture at the Maritime Museum (Museum Bahari) Jakarta. I kick myself for missing this museum on previous visits because it is situated in an 18th century Dutch East India Company warehouse off the tourist and shopping areas.
I found many connections to the Philippines here like Magellan, Ibn Batuta and the Galleon Trade. When I saw cannons marked with "VOC" the initials of Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie [Dutch East India Company] I was reminded of canons with similar markings in the Bastion de San Diego gardens in Intramuros and Plaza Pershing in the town plaza of Zamboanga.
If one is curious , historical connections between the Philippines and Indonesia can be found and seen in artifacts.
