💬 What is the difference between Dry Chemical (Red) and HCFC-123 (Green) fire extinguishers? 🧯

💡💬 Dry Chemical (Red) & HCFC-123 or HFC-236FA (Green) fire extinguishers can both suppress fire types A, B, & C. The difference is: HCFC does not leave a chemical residue once discharged, however it is far more expensive than Dry Chemical.

HCFC-123 is commonly used in high value electronic rooms, server rooms, high value computers rooms, and the likes. While Dry Chemical is widely used due to its cost efficiency, it is most seen in homes, and in many business establishments.

🔥 The Fire Triangle 🔥

In order to understand how fire extinguishers work, you first need to know a little bit about fire. 🔥

Four things must be present at the same time in order to produce fire:

👉 Enough oxygen to sustain combustion,
👉 Enough heat to raise the material to its ignition temperature,
👉 Some sort of fuel or combustible material, and
👉 The chemical, exothermic reaction that is fire.

Take a look at the image of the diagram, called the "Fire Triangle" 🔥🔺

Fire Triangle:

Oxygen, heat, and fuel are frequently referred to as the "fire triangle." Add in the fourth element, the chemical reaction, and you actually have a fire "tetrahedron." The important thing to remember is: take any of these four things away, and you will not have a fire or the fire will be extinguished.

Essentially, fire extinguishers put out fire by taking away one or more elements of the fire triangle/tetrahedron. 🧯
