🌈 Gender-Responsive UP Manila Libraries: Fostering Inclusivity and Empowerment 📚
Last April 10, 2026, the UP Manila library community successfully held the seminar-workshop “Gender-Responsive UP Manila Libraries: Fostering Inclusivity and Empowerment” at the College of Dentistry Library. This is in partnership with the Center for Women and Gender Studies.
Aligned with the celebration of Women’s Month, the activity highlighted the crucial role of libraries as catalysts for gender equality—going beyond traditional services to become safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces for all.
The seminar aimed to equip library staff with the knowledge and skills to create inclusive environments, enhance gender-responsive services, strengthen partnerships, and maximize library resources. Participants also engaged in an interactive workshop, where library staff shared insights and practical strategies to further integrate gender-responsive practices in their respective libraries.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our esteemed speakers, Mr. Ernani Agulto and Ms. Gina Canceran, for sharing their expertise on inclusive library programs, gender and development, and innovative service delivery.
This initiative strongly supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly SDG 4 Quality Education and SDG 5: Gender Equality—by promoting inclusive access to information, equitable services, and empowering communities through libraries. 🌍💜

The UPM University Library – Library Extension and Research Network (LEaRN), headed by Ms. Dhomilyn Hernandez, together with committee members Mr. Bernard Lapuz, Mr. Eric Legasto, and Ms. Lara Lintao, conducted an official visit to the UPM School of Health Sciences (SHS) campuses in Tarlac and Baler on March 26–27, 2026.
SHS Tarlac Director, Asst. Prof. Joel Valencia and SHS Baler Director, Asst. Prof. Daisy Delos Reyes led their respective campuses in formally welcoming the team.
The visit aimed to evaluate existing library and academic resources and identify sustainable initiatives to further support the needs of students, faculty, and the academic community. As part of this engagement, the team also donated books to SHS Tarlac to enrich and enhance its learning resources.
This initiative underscores the University Library’s commitment to extending services beyond the main campus and fostering collaborative partnerships across its satellite campuses.
