Filipino Made: The COBRA is a domestically developed system, supporting the Philippine Self-Reliant Defense Posture (SRDP) program and reducing reliance on imported military equipment.

Project COBRA (Controller Operated Battle-Ready Armament) is a Philippine-made, remotely controlled weapon station (RCWS) for the Philippine Army, developed by the DOST-Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC) with the Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines (MRSP) to bolster the army's self-reliance. Mounted on armored vehicles like the M113 APC, COBRA features a 0.50 caliber weapon, a 360-degree rotation capability, and an integrated optical sensor, enhancing crew protection and local defense production.
Remote Operation: It is a remote-controlled weapon system (RCWS) with a 360-degree turning capability, protecting the gun operator from direct enemy fire.

Joint Project: COBRA is a collaborative effort between the DOST-MIRDC, the Philippine Army, and the MRSP.

Goals: The project aims to improve the firepower of armored assets, support the local defense industry, and adapt military technology to national security needs.

Relation to Project BUHAWI

COBRA is similar to Project BUHAWI, another DOST-MIRDC developed RCWS for the Philippine Navy, but COBRA is designed for the Army.

COBRA's main difference from BUHAWI is its 360-degree rotation compared to BUHAWI's 270-degree turn.

Significance

The project represents a significant step in the Philippines' quest for self-sufficiency in defense hardware.

It addresses issues of dependency on foreign military equipment, slow delivery of technology, and the urgent need to modernize military assets.

The world is watching—and the world is standing with us.

No country supports China’s claims of a nine-dash line. Rather, over 50 nations have joined the Philippines in condemning their actions over the West Philippine Sea. Most importantly, no one has blamed us for defending our territorial and sovereign rights.

This growing support shows that international law matters now more than ever, and that unity in the Indo-Pacific is possible when nations value principle over pressure.
