Strengthening Integrated Infectious Disease Programs through Collaborative Monitoring Across Lanao del Sur | May 5-8, 2026
The Integrated Provincial Health Office of Lanao del Sur (IPHO-LDS), through the Integrated Infectious Disease Cluster in partnership with the Ministry of Health–BARMM (MOH-BARMM), successfully conducted the Integrated Infectious Disease Cluster Monitoring for the HIV-STI, Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis (STH), Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (EREID), and Leprosy Programs from May 5–8, 2026 across selected municipalities in Lanao del Sur.
The monitoring activities covered the Rural Health Units (RHUs) of Saguiaran, Piagapo, Balindong, Buadiposo Buntong, Bubong, Taraka, Tamparan, and Poona Bayabao, as well as Tamparan Provincial Hospital. The initiative aimed to strengthen the implementation of infectious disease programs through supportive supervision, technical assistance, validation of reports, and assessment of healthcare service delivery systems within the municipalities.
During the monitoring visits, the team conducted facility assessments, one-on-one interviews with focal persons, validation of available medicines, supplies, IEC materials, laboratory services, and healthcare resources related to infectious diseases prevention and response. Tamparan Provincial Hospital likewise demonstrated continuous implementation of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures, including established IPC systems, proper waste segregation practices, and infection control activities within the facility. A quick visit to the soon-to-be established HIV Treatment Hub within the hospital was also conducted, identifying areas where support from the Ministry can also be provided.
The monitoring activity also highlighted several operational challenges encountered by some facilities, including shortage of medical technologists, non-functional laboratory services, depleted medical supplies, and limited access to specialized trainings. Through collaborative discussions and on-site validation, the monitoring team reviewed program accomplishments, assessed reporting compliance, identified operational gaps, and provided recommendations to further strengthen HIV-STI, STH, EREID, and Leprosy program implementation across the covered municipalities.
Moreover, the activity reinforced coordination between the provincial and municipal health offices in ensuring timely disease surveillance, proper reporting mechanisms, preparedness, case management, and rapid response to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases within the province. It also emphasized the critical role of local health personnel in maintaining resilient, responsive, and community-centered healthcare systems, particularly in geographically challenged and underserved areas.
The Integrated Infectious Disease Cluster Monitoring further strengthened the technical capacity of healthcare workers through supportive mentoring, technical guidance, and program updates, promoting improved surveillance systems, timely reporting, and effective disease prevention and control measures across municipalities.
The IPHO-Lanao del Sur extends its sincere appreciation to all Municipal Health Officers, RHU staff, nurses, midwives, medical technologists, and healthcare personnel for their active participation, dedication, and continued commitment to public health service. The office also expresses its gratitude to the Ministry of Health–BARMM under the leadership of Dr. Kadil “Jojo” M. Sinolinding Jr., and the Infectious Diseases Cluster team for the continued support and commitment toward strengthening infectious disease programs and building a more resilient healthcare system throughout the Bangsamoro Region.
Indeed, the successful conduct of the Integrated Infectious Disease Cluster Monitoring reflects the collective commitment of provincial and municipal health stakeholders in advancing responsive, equitable, and quality healthcare services for every community in Lanao del Sur.
