Unattended Cooking Causes Fires: Never Leave the Kitchen!
06 October 2026

Distractions can lead to disaster in a matter of seconds. This vital fire safety reminder from Maria Aurora Fire Station highlights that staying alert is your best defense against kitchen accidents:
πŸ›‘ The Golden Rule of Cooking
β€’ Stay in the kitchen whenever you are frying, boiling, grilling, or broiling food.
🚫 Why Constant Supervision Matters
β€’ Fast-moving flames: High-heat cooking methods like frying or grilling can spark a grease fire instantly if left unattended.
β€’ Boil-overs: Pots left to boil can spill over, extinguishing gas flames while allowing dangerous gas to escape, or causing electrical shorts.
β€’ Immediate response: Being physically present allows you to act quicklyβ€”turning off the heat source before a minor flare-up turns into a structural fire.

If you must leave the kitchen for even a short moment, turn off the stove. It is always better to pause your cooking than to risk a fire!

Prevent Kitchen Burns: Turn Pot Handles Inward!
05 October 2026

The kitchen is one of the busiest areas in a home, and cooking safely means preventing accidental spills and burns. This important tip from the Maria Aurora Fire Station reminds us of a simple adjustment that protects everyoneβ€”especially children:
🍳 The Golden Rule of Cookware
β€’ Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove: Always ensure handles are facing inward and away from the edge of the stove or counter.
🚫 Why It Matters
β€’ Prevents accidental bumps: Overhanging handles can easily be caught by clothing or bumped into by passing family members, leading to severe scalds from hot food or boiling liquids.
β€’ Keeps out of reach of children: Curious toddlers can easily reach up and pull a pot down onto themselves if the handle is sticking out.

A small habit change can prevent a painful accident. Keep your cooking area safe and secure!

Be Prepared for a Kitchen Emergency: Keep Fire Suppression Ready!
04 October 2026

Kitchen fires can happen in a flash, and having the right tools close at hand is your best line of defense. This life-saving reminder from Maria Aurora Fire Station focuses on active household emergency readiness:
🚨 Rapid Response Readiness
β€’ Be prepared for a kitchen emergency: Do not wait for a flare-up to figure out how to put it out. Keep specialized tools like a fire blanket within arm's reach of your cooking station.
🍳 Active Steps to Prevent and Handle Kitchen Incidents
β€’ Know your tools: Unlike traditional heavy extinguishers, aerosol fire sprays are lightweight and easy to discharge quickly on small stovetop, grease, or electrical fires.
β€’ Keep lids nearby: Always keep a well-fitting metal lid close to your pan while cooking. If a small grease fire breaks out, sliding the lid over the pan is the fastest way to smother the oxygen.
β€’ Never use water on oil: Pouring water on a grease or oil fire will cause a violent explosion of steam and flames, spreading the fire across your kitchen instantly.

Equip your kitchen with the right safety gear and know how to use it before an emergency strikes! πŸ›‘πŸ”₯

Safe Grilling: Keep the Flames on the Food, Not Your Home!
03 October 2026

Barbecuing is a great way to enjoy meals with family, but open flames require constant caution. This reminder from the Maria Aurora Fire Station stresses the importance of proper grill placement to prevent destructive fires:
🏑 Keep It Outdoors & Clear
β€’ Only use your grill outside: Never operate a charcoal or gas grill indoors, inside a garage, or in an enclosed porch.
β€’ Stay out from under roof edges: Keep the grill clear of overhanging eaves, awnings, and low ceilings.
β€’ Keep well away from siding: Position your grilling station a safe distance from the exterior walls of your house.
β€’ Clear out overhead hazards: Ensure the grill is placed far away from deck railings, low-hanging tree branches, and dry foliage.

Enjoy your barbecue safely by designating a clear, open zone for cooking!
