PALIT BASURA, BALYO BIGAS AT PAGKAIN
The Local Government Unit of Milagros, under the leadership of Municipal Mayor Hon. Natividad Isabel R. Magbalon, M.D., through the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) under the supervision of MENR Officer Carmen B. Cortes, EnP., continues to strengthen community participation in proper solid waste management and segregation at source through the Palit Basura, Balyo Bigas at Pagkain program.
The initiative encourages households and community members to properly segregate recyclable materials such as plastic sachets and bottles at the point where waste is generated. These recoverable materials are collected and exchanged for rice and food, providing a practical incentive while promoting responsible waste management, resource recovery, and reducing the amount of waste that ends up in disposal areas.
More than an exchange of recyclables for food, the program promotes a culture of environmental responsibility and community participation. It reminds everyone that proper waste management starts at home and that every household has an important role in keeping the community clean. Bawat tamang segregasyon, bawat nare-recover na recyclable, at bawat pakikilahok ay ambag sa mas malinis, mas ligtas, at mas luntiang bayan.
