The Municipal Government of Matag-ob joins the nationwide observance of Consumer Welfare Month 2026 this October, promoting greater awareness on consumer protection and the importance of choosing safe and quality products.

This year’s observance highlights the theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers,” with the campaign message “Raising Standards for Safer Products and Stronger Consumer Confidence.” It emphasizes the importance of ensuring that consumers are informed and confident in the products they purchase and use.

The Municipal Government of Matag-ob encourages every Matag-obanon to become responsible and informed consumers by being mindful of product quality, safety, and other important information before making a purchase. Through greater consumer awareness, we can help promote safer products and strengthen consumer confidence in our community.

𝐏𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐂 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆

MATAG-OB, LEYTE — The Municipal Government of Matag-ob conducted a Public Hearing on October 2, 2026, at the Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) Hall, New Legislative Building, Municipal Government Complex, bringing together barangay officials and local stakeholders for consultation and discussion on proposed legislative measures and matters concerning the municipality.

The activity was spearheaded by Municipal Mayor Hon. Bernandino G. Tacoy and Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Romeo N. Albarida, together with the 12th Sangguniang Bayan Members, Barangay Chairpersons from the 21 barangays, and Barangay Officials who head the Committees on Agriculture and Environment.

The Public Hearing provided an opportunity for barangay officials to share their views, comments, suggestions, and concerns on proposed measures that may affect their respective communities. The discussions focused on matters related to local governance, community development, agriculture, environmental concerns, and other areas relevant to the welfare of the people.

Through this initiative, the Municipal Government of Matag-ob continues to promote collaboration, consultation, and participatory governance, ensuring that the voices and concerns of the barangays are heard and considered in local policymaking.

𝐕𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐓𝐘 𝐅𝐈𝐄𝐋𝐃 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐋 (𝐕𝐅𝐓) 𝐅𝐈𝐄𝐋𝐃 𝐄𝐕𝐀𝐋𝐔𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐀 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍

MATAG-OB, LEYTE — The Municipal Agriculture Office of Matag-ob, headed by Municipal Agriculturist Claudia C. Ibañez, in partnership with the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) Bicol Branch Station, conducted the Variety Field Trial (VFT) Field Evaluation and Data Collection on October 2, 2026, at the farm area of farmer-cooperator Orlando Viacrusis in Barangay Imelda, Matag-ob, Leyte.

The activity was led by PhilRice Bicol Branch Station Regional Coordinator Marvin Garcia, with the active participation of local rice farmers, and was supported by Municipal Mayor Hon. Bernandino G. Tacoy and Hon. Artemio T. Almoroto, SB Committee on Agriculture.

The activity provided farmers with an opportunity to personally observe and assess the different rice varieties being evaluated based on their field performance, overall appearance, grain quality, and other desirable characteristics. It also encouraged farmers to share their observations and preferences while gaining additional knowledge about the varieties being tested.

During the field evaluation, participating farmers selected the rice varieties they considered most promising based on their observations.

The Top 5 preferred varieties were:

🏆 Top 1 – NSIC Rc 740
🌾 Top 2 – NSIC Rc 222
🌾 Top 3 – NSIC Rc 738
🌾 Top 4 – NSIC Rc 470
🌾 Top 5 – NSIC Rc 732

The activity highlighted the important role of farmers in evaluating rice varieties and identifying those with desirable characteristics and potential suitability to local farming conditions. It also strengthened collaboration among the Municipal Government of Matag-ob, PhilRice, and local farmers in supporting improved rice production and agricultural development.

The Municipal Government of Matag-ob joins the nationwide observance of Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026 this October, promoting greater awareness and responsible practices in keeping individuals, communities, and institutions safe in the digital space.

This year’s observance carries the theme “HABI: Salig sa Gawa, Tibay sa Banta”, which highlights the importance of bringing people, institutions, technologies, capabilities, and partnerships together toward a more resilient Philippine cyberspace. The campaign encourages everyone to turn cybersecurity awareness into meaningful action through preparedness, cooperation, and shared responsibility.

Guided by the pillars of Cyber Tanaw, Cyber Salig, Cyber Balangay, and Cyber Tibay, the Municipal Government of Matag-ob encourages every Matag-obanon to remain vigilant and practice safe and responsible digital habits. Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and the call to stay informed, protect what matters, work together, and strengthen our ability to respond to digital threats goes beyond the month of October.

The Municipal Government of Matag-ob joins the nationwide observance of Elderly Filipino Week (EFW) 2026, held every first week of October, in recognition of the invaluable contributions, rights, dignity, and aspirations of Filipino senior citizens.

This year’s celebration carries the theme “Nakatatandang Pilipino: May Halaga at Karapatan, May Boses at Ambag sa Bayan,” highlighting the importance of recognizing senior citizens not only as beneficiaries of programs and services but also as valued and active members of society whose experiences, wisdom, and contributions continue to help shape communities and the nation.

The Municipal Government of Matag-ob recognizes the important role of senior citizens in the community and remains committed to supporting programs that promote their welfare, participation, dignity, and well-being.

As we celebrate Elderly Filipino Week, let us continue to value, listen to, respect, and honor our senior citizens, whose life experiences and contributions remain an important part of our community and our shared future.

𝐅𝐄𝐌𝐒𝐂𝐀 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐋𝐘 𝐌𝐄𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆

MATAG-OB, LEYTE - The Federation of Matag-ob Senior Citizen Association (FEMSCA) successfully held its regular monthly meeting on October 1, 2026, at the Conference Room, Panday Eloy Building.

The meeting, held every first Thursday of the month, provided an opportunity to review organizational matters, discuss upcoming community initiatives, and address concerns related to the welfare of senior citizens.

The session was led by Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) Head Bernardo E. Sanoria and FEMSCA President Arsenio C. Dolino Jr., together with the FEMSCA officers, with the support of Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Mr. Enrique A. Odtuhan, RSW, and OSCA staff.

The meeting reflected the continued commitment of FEMSCA and its partners to serving, supporting, and empowering the senior citizen community of Matag-ob.

The Municipal Government of Matag-ob joins the nation in observing the 29th Indigenous Peoples Month this October, recognizing the invaluable contributions of Indigenous Peoples in preserving culture, traditions, and the rich heritage of our communities.

This month-long observance highlights the importance of protecting and promoting the rights, identity, culture, and ancestral domains of Indigenous Peoples. It also serves as an opportunity to recognize their meaningful contributions to community life and to encourage greater understanding, respect, and inclusion.

As we honor this occasion, may we continue to support efforts that empower Indigenous Peoples, strengthen their rights, and preserve their cultural heritage for generations to come.

MATAG-OB, LEYTE - The 12th Sangguniang Bayan of Matag-ob conducted a Joint Committee Meeting on October 1, 2026, at the SB Session Hall, New Legislative Building, Municipal Government Complex.

The meeting focused on the review and discussion of proposed measures and other matters concerning the municipality. Members of the Sangguniang Bayan actively participated in the deliberations and committee discussions.

The meeting formed part of the continuing efforts of the Sangguniang Bayan to carefully deliberate on matters that support effective local governance and responsive public service for the people of Matag-ob.
