The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 1 joined the Department of Agriculture (DA) in an extensive market inspection at the Bauang Public Market in La Union on June 1, 2026. This joint initiative is a key component of the nationwide simultaneous price monitoring conducted under the Memorandum Order issued by DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel.

The objective of this mission is to ensure the rigorous implementation of Executive Order No. 118, which establishes a mandated price ceiling of โ‚ฑ50 per kilogram for imported premium rice (5% broken). By maintaining a visible presence in the marketplace and verifying retail compliance, DTI, DA along with the other agencies such as the National Food Authority (NFA), Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) and Philippine National Police (PNP) aim to stabilize essential commodity prices and safeguard the purchasing power of the public.

DTI Region 1 reaffirms its commitment to consumer welfare and continues to work closely with partner agencies to prevent price manipulation and ensure that the protections provided by EO 118 are fully realized by every Filipino consumer.

Empowering MSMEs through stronger government support and meaningful collaboration!

The Department of Trade and Industry Region 1 successfully conducted the KMME-MME Online Class 2026 Batch 1 Government Services Forum on March 26, 2026 via Zoom and Facebook Live, bringing together MSMEs and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

The forum served as a valuable platform for KMME mentees and OFWs to learn more about the various programs, services, and assistance available from partner government agencies that can help strengthen and grow their businesses.

Representatives from DTI, DOST, DOLE, IPOPHL, DICT, BIR, and SBCorp shared important information on financing, innovation, skills development, digitalization, intellectual property protection, taxation, and other MSME support mechanisms.

The activity was graced by DTI Region 1 Regional Director Merlie D. Membrere and Supervising Head of the DTI Regional Operations Group, Usec. Blesila A. Lantayona, who both emphasized the importance of empowering MSMEs through continuous learning, resilience, and access to government support services.

As the mentees continue their entrepreneurial journey under the KMME Program, the Government Services Forum further strengthened their awareness of the opportunities and support systems available to help them become more resilient, adaptive, and competitive entrepreneurs.

Together, let us continue building stronger and more empowered MSMEs for Region 1!

LOOK || On May 20, 2026, the Region 1 MSME Development Council gathered virtually for its very first meeting via Zoom.
