P2.6M OF MA*****NA SEIZED IN A CHECKPOINT OPERATION IN KALINGA

A 36-year-old motorcycle rider who ran through a police checkpoint was found transporting a stash of illegal drugs.

Ersilias Baccoy was intercepted by police in Dangoy, Kalinga on Thursday morning, September 29, 2022 while on board a red motorcycle after running through a police checkpoint and disregarding signals to stop.

Upon inspection, police discovered in his possession some 22,000 grams of dried Ma*****na leaves and stalks with fruiting tops with an estimated street value of P2,640,000.00.

He will be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165.

“This interdiction operation is a testament to how police presence can really help deter crime in the streets. Tulong-tulong tayo sa pagbabantay ng mga lansangan para masawata ang kalakaran ng mga kriminal. Our increased presence can help boost the public confidence. When police personnel are on the ground, the general public can immediately report untoward incidents,” PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said.

29 POGO WORKERS RESCUED IN PARANAQUE CITY

The Philippine National Police (PNP) together with other law enforcers and social workers launched an operation that resulted to the rescue of 29 alleged Human Trafficking victims of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO).

“Tulong-tulong tayo sa pagsugpo ng mga human trafficking sa bansa. This successful operation can be attributed to the hardworking men and women of the LFU- WCPC together with personnel from RIU-NCR, IG, Parañaque City Police Station, SPD-NCRPO with representatives of CSWDO Parañaque City and IACAT-DOJ. Together, they conducted a strong intelligence gathering following a complaint regarding the forced labor incident preying on the POGO workers,” PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said.

The alleged human trafficking victims were 23 Myanmar Nationals (Burmese) and six Chinese. They were rescued at Concorde Village 4C Sunrise Street Tambo, Parañaque City on Thursday, September 29.

Police authorities are now coordinating with concerned government agencies and counterparts for the proper documentation, disposition and interview of the victims.
