| 𝗕𝗠𝗖 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗮𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁: “Kaaraman sa kaligtasan satong pag-adalan, Tanganing buhay kan pasyente satong maingatan.”
Bicol Medical Center (BMC), through its Hospital Patient Safety Committee and in partnership with the Joint Commission International (JCI), successfully hosted its first Patient Safety Summit on October 16, 2026. Themed “Connect, Share, Learn, and Improve: Advancing Patient Safety Together,” the landmark event brought together patient safety advocates from across the Bicol Region to strengthen healthcare standards and regional collaboration.
Hosted by Mr. Mark Joseph V. Olayon, (Nurse IV, Infection Prevention Control Nurse), the summit featured insightful sessions from our esteemed resource speakers:
JCI Safety Pathways: Dr. Ryan D. Olos, Patient Safety Pathways Fellow, discussed applying global safety standards within our hospital units.
• Incident Reporting: Mr. Raymar V. Bron, RN, tackled IMPETUS and the importance of positive patient identification.
• Safe Surgery: Dr. Juan Alfonso M. Mendoza emphasized multidisciplinary teamwork and communication in the operating room.
• Safe Records: Ms. Amy M. Leron, from the BMC Health Information Management Department, highlighted how protecting health information ensures continuity of safe care.
• Green Facility: Engr. Abhegail Mangampo outlined protocols for maintaining a secure and environmentally sound institution.
• Infection Control: Dr. Jose Manuel T. Rañola III, Head of BMC's Infection Prevention and Control Unit, shed light on managing human factors in hand hygiene and PPE use.
• Medication Safety: Mr. Nome A. Sadang, Rph, reinforced the critical checkpoints of the right patient, right drug, and right dose.
• Regional Network: Dr. Abel Francisco B. Ramos II shared the vision behind establishing the Bicol Patient Safety Network.
The summit closed with a Pledge of Commitment led by Chief Nurse Ma’am Whilhelmina C. De Castro, reminding everyone that safety relies on our everyday actions, every single shift.
