CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — As artificial intelligence (AI) transforms news production and digital platforms accelerate the spread of information, broadcasters are examining how journalism can remain ethical, credible, and relevant in an increasingly digital world.
The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) is holding a three-day seminar-workshop titled “Broadcast Relevance & Public Trust in the Digital Age” from October 21 to 23, 2026, at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP).
TriMedia Digital Broadcasting Services is among the participating media organizations in the nationwide gathering, which brings together broadcasters from KBP-accredited stations, media practitioners, and representatives of academic institutions.
The seminar-workshop focuses on the evolving responsibilities of broadcasters, particularly the ethical use of AI, adherence to professional journalism standards, and the need to maintain public trust amid rapid technological change.
AI offers new opportunities for research, content development, and information dissemination. However, its growing use also raises concerns about misinformation, manipulated content, and the difficulty of distinguishing verified reports from misleading material circulating online.
These challenges underscore a fundamental principle of journalism: technology can support journalists’ work, but it cannot replace their responsibility to verify facts, provide context, and report in the public interest.
For media organizations, adopting new technologies must go hand in hand with accuracy, fairness, accountability, and transparency. These principles remain essential as audiences increasingly turn to digital platforms for news and public information.
For TriMedia Digital, participation in the seminar-workshop provides an opportunity to learn about emerging media practices, exchange experiences with fellow broadcasters, and strengthen its commitment to responsible journalism and digital communication.
Operating in Misamis Occidental, TriMedia Digital produces and distributes community-oriented news and public information through its digital media platforms. Its coverage includes local developments, government activities, public service initiatives, and issues affecting communities across the province.
As digital media continues to transform how news is produced and consumed, community-based outlets face the challenge of adapting to new technologies and changing audience behavior without compromising journalistic credibility.
The KBP seminar-workshop provides a venue for broadcasters, media organizations, and academic institutions to exchange perspectives on these challenges and explore ways to strengthen professional practice.
For digital and community media practitioners, the challenge goes beyond keeping pace with innovation. It is about ensuring that technological advances serve journalism and the public interest.
The three-day activity at USTP highlights the continuing importance of professional development and collaboration in broadcasting. Ultimately, maintaining relevance in the digital age requires not only technological competence but also an enduring commitment to ethical reporting, verified information, and public trust.
