Following years of absence and postponement of student government elections, the Studentsโ Electoral Board (SEB) officially conducts a Miting de Avance for aspiring Paulinian Student Government (PSG) officers at the Mary Ngo Auditorium, July 21, 2026.
Throughout the event, candidates vying for various positions in the student government introduced themselves, presented their platforms, and addressed issues concerning the student body. The activity marked the return of the student council elections after years of hiatus, allowing students to become more familiar with each aspirantโs leadership goals and proposed initiatives ahead of the upcoming elections.
In an interview with Zoe Ponferrada, President of SEB, emphasizes the significance of holding the Miting de Avance, noting that it gives students the opportunity to get to know the candidates, evaluate their platforms, and make informed decisions during the election.
โThis will serve as a platform to give them a choice of why and who to choose in who they think can lead them. To give them an idea to how the PSG would respond, even before they get elected." she said.
One student attendee shared that the activity helped them gain a clearer understanding of the candidatesโ platforms and their proposed initiatives for the student body.
โThe Miting de Avance helped me get to know the candidates, if they are fit and worthy of our votes, to know their intentions and thoughts on the issues around us because this will help us choose" the student said.
The Miting de Avance is an avenue for transparent and meaningful engagement between the candidates and the Paulinian student body, reinforcing the values of democratic participation and responsible student leadership. This served as a major step for the Paulinian body after years of electoral failure due to the lack of the students' interest in candidacy.
