The construction of a national library building was part of the vision of the Jose Rizal National Centennial Commission—which was established to honor the life, works, and enduring influence of our national hero. As we commemorate his martyrdom every December 30, we reaffirm our commitment to Rizal’s belief in the power of knowledge, education, and the Filipino spirit.

Created by President Ramon Magsaysay through Executive Order No. 52 (1954), the Jose Rizal National Centennial Commission (JRNCC) led the nationwide observance of Rizal’s 100th birth anniversary in 1961. The Commission published Rizal’s writings, issued commemorative materials such as stamps and medals, organized memorial projects, and coordinated activities across the country to deepen public understanding of Rizal’s ideals.

Digitized publications of the José Rizal Centennial Commission—including issues of the Rizal Centennial Bulletin—are available through ourTeknoAklatan Database:

The National Library of the Philippines also preserves the original manuscripts of Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, along with an extensive Rizaliana collection. Both manuscripts are on display at the NLP Permanent Gallery. You may also browse digitized copies of Dr. Rizal’s works through our TeknoAklatan Database:
