PAOAY, ILOCOS NORTE | August 6, 2026 โ Young minds took center stage as the Paoay Lake Protected Landscape (PLPL) concluded its three-day 1st Anniversary Celebration with a ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐ณ ๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ค๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐๐ฌ๐ญ held at ๐๐๐จ๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐ ๐ก ๐๐๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ฅ.
Bringing together students with a passion for learning, creativity, and the environment, the culminating activity provided an avenue for the youth to demonstrate their knowledge of biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, and the ecological importance of the Paoay Lake Protected Landscape.
The Quiz Bee challenged participating students to test their knowledge on the history, biodiversity, ecosystem services, threats, conservation initiatives, and management of Paoay Lake, as well as relevant environmental laws and policies. More than a competition, the activity encouraged students to deepen their understanding of the protected landscape and appreciate the important role they can play in its conservation.
Meanwhile, the Poster Making Contest gave young artists the opportunity to translate their environmental knowledge and advocacy into colorful and meaningful works of art. Through their creative expressions, the students conveyed powerful messages on protecting wetlands, conserving biodiversity, keeping Paoay Lake clean, and inspiring communities to become responsible stewards of nature.
The activities were made more meaningful through the participation and support of Paoay Lake National High School, together with the teachers, school officials, participating students, members of the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB), Protected Area Management Office (PAMO), and partner agencies and stakeholders who helped make the celebration possible.
The culminating activity also underscored the importance of ๐๐ง๐ฏ๐ข๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ in protected area management. By providing young people with opportunities to learn, compete, create, and advocate for nature, PLPL hopes to nurture a generation that not only understands the value of biodiversity but is also willing to take an active role in protecting it.
The three-day anniversary celebration began with the launching of the Pag-asang Luntian para sa Paoay Lake Project and PLPL Merchandise, followed by the Wetland Appreciation Tour for the young learners of Nanguyudan Elementary School, and culminated with the Quiz Bee and Poster Making Contest at Paoay Lake National High School.
