𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐍̃𝐀𝐐𝐔𝐄 𝐂𝐈𝐓𝐘 - To deepen understanding of the Technical-Professional (Tech-Pro) curriculum for Senior High School (SHS), the Schools Division of Parañaque organized the Tech-Pro Curriculum Training for Senior High Schools at W9 Hotel Manila on June 2-4, 2026.

Rowell Capistrano and Oswald Aban from the Bureau of Curriculum Development of the DepEd Central Office facilitated the sessions, plunging the participants into “the menu” of the Tech-Pro curriculum, formerly the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) track.

Emphasizing the enhanced curriculum's industry-responsive approach, Capistrano underscored that technical competence alone is no longer sufficient. “We do not just teach the hard skills, but we teach the soft skills needed in our industry,” he said.

The training highlighted major reforms in SHS, including the implementation of the three-term school calendar under DepEd Order No. 009, s. 2026. Designed to protect instructional time and promote deeper learning, the new calendar, as the speakers stressed, seeks to address long-standing disruptions caused by class suspensions, weather disturbances, overlapping school activities, and uneven term lengths.

Speakers added that with as many as 53 out of 180 school days, or nearly 30 percent of the school year, having historically been disrupted in the old curriculum, such interruptions often resulted in compressed lessons, reduced mastery time, limited opportunities for remediation, and inconsistent learning pacing. Teachers likewise faced intensified workloads due to overlapping instructional demands, reporting requirements, and multiple grading cycles.

Participants explored key changes in lesson planning using the ILAW (Intentions-Learning experiences -Assessment-Ways forward) format, unpacking competencies, pedagogy, classroom assessment, grading systems, and awards. Discussions covered the Flexible Learning Program (FLP), strengthened work immersion, and education-in-emergencies protocols that enable schools to shift to flexible learning when circumstances arise.

According to the speakers, under the Tech-Pro curriculum, performance-based learning takes center stage, with performance tasks accounting for 60 percent of learner assessment, placing greater emphasis on authentic workplace experiences through enhanced work immersion.

Schools Division Superintendent Loreta B. Torrecampo commended the SHS teachers and schoolheads for their active participation in the training. She also acknowledged the continued support of the local government led by City Mayor Edwin L. Olivarez, whose investments in teacher development initiatives contribute to improved learning outcomes for Parañaque learners.

Antonio L. Layacan, Education Program Supervisor for TLE/EPP and Division Tech-Pro focal person, managed the three-day training, also monitored by OIC-Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Rowel S. Padernal and Curriculum Implementation Division Chief Rodel C. Apostol, with the Secondary Public Schools District Supervisors comprising the Technical Working Group. #
