NBI HONORS "MODERN-DAY BABAYLANS"; RECOGNIZES 92 FEMALE LEADERS IN NATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH CELEBRATION

PASAY CITY, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), led by Director Atty. Melvin A. Matibag, officially joined the nation in celebrating National Women’s Month, adopting the 2026 theme: “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society – Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”

Through its Gender and Development - Focal Point System (GAD-FPS), the Bureau launched a series of high-impact initiatives aimed at empowering its female workforce and reinforcing a culture of safety and professional excellence.

The celebration commenced with the NBI’s active participation in the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) kick-off held at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on March 06, 2026. Following this national launch, the Bureau rolled out a comprehensive set of activities for both Manila-based and regional office personnel. These efforts included the distribution of freebies to all female employees and the conduct of vital wellness seminars. These educational forums addressed frequently overlooked health concerns such as hyperacidity, gallstones, and HIV awareness, while also providing critical legal orientations on the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313) and the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (RA 9262).

A significant highlight of the month-long observance was the formal recognition of 92 female NBI leaders, celebrated as the primary driving forces of change within the Bureau. The event featured Honorable Rene Ann Lourdes Matibag, Representative of the First District of Laguna, as the Guest Speaker. In her address, she emphasized that women were never intended to be secondary and have always been meant to lead. Demonstrating her commitment to the cause, Representative Matibag further supported the Bureau’s female employees by facilitating the distribution of free HPV vaccines. The program was further enriched by a lecture from Retired Justice Helen Sandoval-Gutierrez, who spoke extensively on the integration of leadership and integrity in women’s empowerment.

In his closing remarks, Director Atty. Melvin A. Matibag reaffirmed the NBI’s unwavering dedication to fostering an inclusive and progressive environment. He pledged that the Bureau will continue to build a workplace where women are safe, respected, and fully supported as they lead with strength, integrity, and compassion.

NBI RESCUES SECOND MINOR VICTIM OF ONLINE SEXUAL EXPLOITATION IN BATANGAS FOLLOW-UP OPERATION

PASAY CITY, Philippines – On March 25, 2026, the National Bureau of Investigation - Violence Against Women and Children Division (NBI-VAWCD) successfully rescued another minor victim of Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) in a follow-up operation in Tanauan, Batangas.

The rescue was initiated following a previous successful NBI-VAWCD operation that resulted in the arrest of a facilitator and the rescue of an initial victim. Information provided by the first survivor led the NBI-VAWCD to the identity of the second minor being exploited by the same facilitator.

In a coordinated effort with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) of Tanauan, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Department of Education (DepEd), NBI agents conducted the rescue at a local public high school. With the assistance of the victim’s class adviser, the minor was identified and safely taken into protective custody. She has since been turned over to the CSWD for trauma-informed intervention and support.

Evidence gathered from the minor-victims has led to additional charges against the Subject for violations of Republic Act No. 11930, also known as the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act, and Republic Act No. 9208, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, as amended by R.A. 10364 and R.A. 11862.

NBI Director Atty. Melvin A. Matibag praised the NBI-VAWCD for their relentless efforts that culminated in the successful rescue of the minor victim from trafficking. He highlighted that this operation signifies the Bureau's commitment to pursuing every lead, emphasizing that the NBI will not stop at the initial arrest but will continue its operations until every victim is rescued and brought to safety. Director Matibag assured the public that the NBI will continue to work tirelessly to prevent further victimization and bring perpetrators to justice, calling for community support and vigilance in the collective fight against human trafficking.

WOMEN WERE NEVER SECONDARY, WOMEN WERE ALWAYS MEANT TO LEAD ✨💜

In celebration of Women’s Month, Congresswoman Ann Matibag joined the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in honoring the courage, strength, and leadership of Filipinas who continue to rise and lead in spaces once closed to them.

Her message carried a clear and powerful truth: women are not defined by limitations, but by the impact they make.

“Because you’re a woman.” “You’re too weak.” “That job isn’t for you.” And yet, here you are, proving them wrong every single day. You lead investigations, make critical decisions, and uphold justice with courage and integrity, all while carrying the many roles expected of women. So how do you do it? Because women are not weak. Women are not secondary. Women are leaders.

Today is not just about recognition, it is about reclaiming space. Space in leadership. Space in decision-making. Space in institutions not always built with women in mind. And while progress has been made, the fight continues. Are opportunities truly equal? Until they are, the fight goes on, for a more just, inclusive, and empowered future.
