Pasay City - Discussions on a possible wage increase for private-sector workers in the National Capital Region officially commenced on May 22, 2026, as the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boardโ€“National Capital Region (RTWPB-NCR) conducted its initial consultation with labor sector representatives. โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
The consultation, attended by around 100 labor sector representatives from various labor organizations and groups across the NCR, marks the beginning of the Boardโ€™s wage review and consultation process for the region. โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
During her opening remarks, Atty. Sarah Buena S. Mirasol, RTWPB-NCR Chairperson and DOLE-NCR Regional Director, emphasized that the Boardโ€™s wage determination process is โ€œalways guided by evidence, consultation, and the realities of both workers and employers.โ€ She also expressed her appreciation to the participants for actively sharing their insights and recommendations, which will serve as vital inputs in the Boardโ€™s ongoing review. โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
To date, the Board has received a total of eighteen (18) wage petitions and two (2) position papers seeking increases ranging from โ‚ฑ200 to โ‚ฑ842 in the daily wages of NCR workers. The petitions cited rising living costs, inflation, transportation expenses, and the need to improve the welfare and purchasing power of minimum wage earners. โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
Through a series of sectoral consultations and a public hearing, the RTWPB-NCR aims to gather valuable stakeholder inputs, assess prevailing socioeconomic conditions, and determine appropriate wage adjustments that balance workersโ€™ welfare and enterprise sustainability. โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
The consultation with employer groups will follow on May 26, 2026, while the public hearing is scheduled for June 18, 2026. โฃโฃ
