Pasay City - Discussions on a possible wage increase for private-sector workers in the National Capital Region officially commenced on May 22, 2026, as the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board–National Capital Region (RTWPB-NCR) conducted its initial consultation with labor sector representatives. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The consultation, attended by around 100 labor sector representatives from various labor organizations and groups across the NCR, marks the beginning of the Board’s wage review and consultation process for the region. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
During her opening remarks, Atty. Sarah Buena S. Mirasol, RTWPB-NCR Chairperson and DOLE-NCR Regional Director, emphasized that the Board’s wage determination process is “always guided by evidence, consultation, and the realities of both workers and employers.” She also expressed her appreciation to the participants for actively sharing their insights and recommendations, which will serve as vital inputs in the Board’s ongoing review. ⁣⁣

To date, the Board has received a total of eighteen (18) wage petitions and two (2) position papers seeking increases ranging from ₱200 to ₱842 in the daily wages of NCR workers. The petitions cited rising living costs, inflation, transportation expenses, and the need to improve the welfare and purchasing power of minimum wage earners. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Through a series of sectoral consultations and a public hearing, the RTWPB-NCR aims to gather valuable stakeholder inputs, assess prevailing socioeconomic conditions, and determine appropriate wage adjustments that balance workers’ welfare and enterprise sustainability. ⁣⁣

The consultation with employer groups will follow on May 26, 2026, while the public hearing is scheduled for June 18, 2026. ⁣⁣
