April is National Literature Month, so for our monthly 21AM Collection Feature we present “Self Portrait With Third Eye”, by Jose Garcia Villa—poet, fictionist, critic, and National Artist for Literature! ✍️

This pencil sketch is half of a face, formed by his initials J and V, with an eye that has three irises. It is said that one with a “third eye” has the ability to see things most people cannot, so perhaps Villa intended to portray himself as this “seer” with an elevated perception of the world? His contemporary in the modernist literature world, E.E. Cummings, talks of him in the poem ‘Doveglion’: “he isn't looking / he is seeing”.

Doveglion is the pen name used by Villa, a portmanteau of dove, eagle, and lion. In Villa’s manifesto ‘A Composition’ he says it to be his “true name”.

Itinampok ng UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) sa kanilang website ang proyektong Stories for Peace na pinamunuan ng Candon Youth for Empowerment Movement.

Ang nasabing proyekto ay naglilinang ng kakayahan ng mga g**o mula sa Department of Education upang magsulat at gumuhit ng mga kuwentong pambata para magtaguyod ng kapayapaan.

Isa sa mga dumalo sa event ay si Beverly W. Siy ng CCP Intertextual Division noong 17 at 18 ng Enero 2026 sa lungsod ng Candon, Ilocos Sur.

The CCP through the Intertextual Division is proud to have joined the Opening Ceremony of the Philippine Book Festival 2026! 📚🇵🇭

As we gathered with fellow Filipino readers, writers, and cultural workers, we celebrate the dynamic relationships between texts to strengthen the local publishing industry and promote a culture of reading.

The CCP ID employees together with interns attended the PBF 2026 Opening Program held on the first day, met prominent authors and artists, and delighted in various booths and activities. The festival was held on March 12-15, 2026, at the Megatrade Hall, SM Megamall.

We sincerely thank the National Book Development Board - Philippines (NBDB) and the rest of the organizers for making this fun-filled event a success! ✨
