Sam Eala, an alumna, led change beyond the classroom.
Through her Wattle Fellowship at The University of Melbourne, she developed "Care in Crisis," a project that highlights the resilience of Filipino mothers in Calatagan, Batangas amid climate change.
Sam also won the 2024 Indo-Pacific Global Health Case Competition and the 2025 Miegunyah Student Project Award for her work.

Australia supports the Philippines’ pursuit of universal health coverage.
Through the Australia Awards Fellowship led by JBI at The University of Adelaide, 13 Filipino academics and clinicians gained expertise in systematic reviews—key to evidence-based health policies and clinical guidelines for universal health care in the 🇵đź‡
We look forward to seeing them apply these skills to create lasting impact in their institutions and communities!

Australia-educated teacher Janeth Morata-Fuentes is using her experience to inspire future scientists in Eastern Visayas. From conducting workshops to publishing her guidebook, The Curious Classroom, she’s giving teachers and students the tools to innovate.
A University of Sydney graduate and teacher at Philippine Science High School - Eastern Visayas Campus in Leyte, Janeth is proving how alumni grants in local communities.

alumni are leading the charge on climate action!
Police Staff Sergeant Michael De Vera is applying his Master of Marine Science and Management from UNSW to advance environmental protection within the PNP Maritime Group. His work supports efforts to prevent illegal fishing, combat marine pollution, and promote sustainable coastal management.
By establishing “Green Police Stations,” he’s driving policies to protect our oceans and reduce the ecological footprint of coastal jurisdictions. Green Police Stations follow practical guidelines and standardised checklist of practices in their operations that protect the planet and conserve marine resources including sustainable energy and solid waste management practices.
“Studying in Australia broadened my perspective and prepared me to contribute meaningfully to the Philippines. My education strengthened not only my technical expertise but also my sense of leadership, collaboration, and innovation, which are essential in addressing the country’s pressing environmental challenges.”​
