By virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 374, May 28 was declared as National Flag Day. This is to commemorate the Philippine flagโs first unfurling after the Philippine Revolutionary Army defeated the Spanish forces in the Battle of Alapan in Imus, Cavite in 1898.
On May 23, 1994, Executive Order No. 79 was issued extending the period of National Flag Day celebration until June 12.
Throughout this period, Filipinos are encouraged to display the Philippine flag in all offices, agencies and instruments of government, business establishments, schools, and private homes.
The Philippine flag is the embodiment of all our countryโs ideals, culture, and tradition. And this celebration allows us to give respect and reverence to our symbol of national sovereignty and solidarity.
