The 160th meeting of the Literacy Coordinating Council (LCC) was held today, January 27, 2026, with Asec. Carmela Oracion from the Office of the Undersecretary for Learning Systems presiding over the gathering. Key officials from the Department of Education (DepEd) were in attendance, including Asec. Janir Datukan of Learning Systems and Director Justine Veron Requejo of ECCD Task Force.
Representatives from various member agencies also participated, including DILG, PIA, PNU, Synergeia Foundation, DEPDev, House of Representatives, and Senate. The meeting focused on discussing initiatives and progress related to PNUโs Current Research, ARAL program, Bayang Bumabasa Initiative, LCCโs accomplishments, among others.

Bilang bahagi ng direktiba ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos na siguruhin ang mas patas na oportunidad sa edukasyon, inilunsad ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang Bayang Bumabasa Initiative (BBI).
Sa ilalim ng programa, ang bawat napiling paaralan ay makatatanggap ng hanggang P1 milyon na pondo para magpatupad ng mga reading program na nakaayon sa lokal na konteksto ng kanilang komunidad.

The Department of Education (DepEd) through the Literacy Coordinating Council (LCC) will conduct the 2025 National Literacy Conference with the theme: Back to Basics: Strengthening the Foundations of Literacy through Local Action and Community Partnerships.
The Annual Conference brings together educators, local government units and other government and non-government organizations to discuss effective practices in addressing challenges and leveraging opportunities in literacy development. One of the highlights of the activity is the launching of the Bayang Bumabasa Initiative (BBI), a renewed national effort to improve literacy through evidence-based community-driven strategies. The BBI seeks to provide targeted support to schools in need by mobilizing partners from various sectors such as grants, mentorship and trainings, among others.
It will be held on December 1-3, 2025 at the Great Eastern Hotel, Quezon City.

The Literacy Coordinating Council (LCC) Secretariat, together with its research team and partner stakeholders, successfully conducted the Technical Report Writing Workshop at the Orchid Garden Suites Manila. The activity focused on developing the technical report based on the initial findings of the LCC research project on Effective Community-Based Literacy Programs.
This initiative is carried out in partnership with the Philippine Normal University and the World Vision Development Foundation, Inc., strengthening our shared commitment to advancing inclusive and impactful literacy efforts for all.
