Following a leadership change, the Senate is now composed of a 13-member majority bloc, 9-member minority bloc, and 2 independent senators.
The majority is now composed of the previous 9 minority members, Sen. Pia Cayetano (sister of Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano), the Villar siblings, and Sen. Loren Legarda.

General Santos City Rep. Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles argued that Congress should not lower the threshold for impeachment just to remove a vice president elected by more than 32 million Filipinos.
"To lower its threshold risks weakening the institution it is meant to protect, because we also recognize that the Office of the Vice President carries the sovereign mandate of 32 million Filipinos,” she said.

With a 257-25-9 vote, Vice President Sara Duterte has been impeached for the second time, by the House of Representatives.
The vote exceeded the one-third requirement of the chamber's total membership. The complaint is now set to be transmitted to the Senate under the newly elected Senate President, Alan Peter Cayetano.
