Hands-on NanoDrop™ Ultra C training at Far Eastern University, Manila

We recently installed a Thermo Scientific NanoDrop™ Ultra C Spectrophotometer at the FEU-Manila Department of Biological Sciences, followed by a basic operation training session for faculty.

Led by our Product Specialist Patricia Manangan, the session covered microvolume and cuvette workflows, nucleic acid and protein quantification, and routine instrument care.

The new instrument will support both research and laboratory teaching in the department. Thank you to the FEU Department of Biological Sciences team for their trust and active participation.

Empowering local analytical capabilities for a greener, more sustainable future.

We recently wrapped up a 2-day training on the Thermo Scientific FlashSmart NC Soil Elemental Analyzer for the DOST-ITDI Biodegradability, Ecotoxicity, and Compostability (BEC) Laboratory. Facilitated by MC Bulawan and Jeremie Lazarte; the sessions focused on instrument operation, sample preparation for precise Nitrogen/Carbon determination, and routine maintenance.

This milestone equips the BEC Lab to expand its testing services for environmental matrices. Thank you to the DOST-ITDI team for their active participation and dedication to advancing local analytical capabilities.

Advancing Breath Test Analysis Through Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry 🔬

Another great story of collaboration and scientific capacity building.

Through an equipment donation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Food and Nutrition Research Institute is strengthening its capabilities for ¹³C breath sample analysis using the GasBench-IRMS system.

A big thank you to Chris Cheah of Thermo Fisher Scientific for sharing his expertise and conducting a successful GasBench-IRMS training at FNRI with Johanne Guilaran and his team, helping establish the foundation for their analytical method development.

Beyond breath analysis, Johanne’s team is also looking forward to exploring ¹³C and ²H isotope analysis in amino acids from plasma and food samples, opening new possibilities for research.

We’re excited to see how this technology will support impactful research and advance isotope-based analysis in the Philippines.
