It also served as an important platform for direct dialogue between Filipino workers and Spanish labor authorities.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Lhuillier underscored the importance of empowering overseas Filipinos through greater awareness of their rights and responsibilities as workers.
In her remarks, Labor Attachรฉ Angela Librado Trinidad underscored the importance of educating Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) about their rights and entitlements under Spanish labor laws. ATHENS, Greece โ The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), through its Migrant Workers Office in Greece and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), conducted welfare visits to overseas Filipino workers in Athens who are facing serious health challenges.
During the visits, the DMW-MWO-OWWA team checked on the condition of an OFW recovering from stroke-related complications and other mobility concerns. The worker requested assistance to allow a family member to travel to Greece and help provide care while her daughter completes her academic requirements and on-the-job training.
The team also visited another OFW undergoing treatment for kidney disease and hypertension. Financial assistance was extended to help address her immediate needs. She is scheduled for repatriation this week and was advised that she may continue her treatment and avail of medical services at the OFW Hospital upon her return to the Philippines.
The welfare visits form part of the continuing efforts of the DMW, MWO, and OWWA to ensure that overseas Filipino workers in vulnerable situations receive timely assistance, compassionate support, and proper coordination until their safe return home. # # #
