Lessons You Don’t Learn by Winning
A journal note from prison, April 2023

Some things are hard to explain.
Why would anyone choose to suffer — just to stand for the truth?
It sounds strange.

We live in a world that teaches us to win, to be first, to stay safe.
So when someone walks into hardship — especially when they could’ve avoided it — people get suspicious.

And honestly, that’s understandable.
It doesn’t make sense by normal standards.
But then again, not everything that’s true makes sense at first glance.

Because sometimes, in the most unlikely places — in prison, in silence, in struggle — something sacred happens.
Not a miracle, not a voice from the clouds.
Just a quiet sense that God is near.

And that nearness becomes enough.
Enough to steady the heart.
Enough to soften the pain.
Enough to bring a kind of joy that doesn’t come from winning, but from not being alone.

That’s when you begin to understand why the persecuted are called “blessed.”
Not because suffering is good —
but because heaven never forgets.

Huwag Lang Magalit — Magising

Tahimik ang paninindigan — pero hindi bulag sa nangyayari.

Muli tayong sinaktan ng mga institusyong dapat sana’y tagapagtanggol ng katotohanan.

Pero sana, huwag lang tayong magalit.
Mas sayang kung ang sakit na ito ay malampasan lang natin — nang walang natutunan.

Hindi lang tao ang kalaban natin. Hindi lang pulitika.
May mas matagal nang kaaway — mas tuso, mas bihasa sa panlilinlang.

Gumagamit siya ng kagalang-galang na anyo — maamo, magalang, maka-Diyos pa nga ang dating.
Ginagamit ang sistema ng hustisya, ang demokrasya mismo.

Kaya’t huwag tayong masyadong nagtitiwala sa tao, sa posisyon, sa institusyon.
Hindi lahat ng mataas ang puwesto ay tagapagtanggol ng tama.

Ang tiwala natin, sa Diyos lamang.

Sa mga panahong tila ginagawang legal ang kasinungalingan, at ginagawang krimen ang paninindigan, ito ang paalala:
Ang pananahimik ng ilang tao ay hindi palatandaan ng kahinaan — kundi ng pagkilatis.

At kapag nagising na ang tao kung paanong ang dilim ay nagkukubli sa anyo ng batas…
…doon natin tunay na matututunan kung paano lumaban sa kadiliman — ng buong tapang ng kalooban, nang may pananampalataya.

ANG MGA HINDI NAKALIMOT

Salamat sa inyo.
Sa mga nagdasal, naghintay, at patuloy na umaasa—
kayo ang patunay:
hindi nawawala ang katotohanan.

Hindi tao ang sentro ng kuwentong ito.
Paninindigan ang kwento.
At ang Diyos na hindi kailanman bumitiw.
