Big News for Sulu Tourism! โœจ

Following the recent inauguration of our new Tourist Rest Area (TRA), we are thrilled to share that TIEZA COO Mark T. Lapid allocated tourism projects to our 19 municipalities.

These tourism developmentsโ€”specifically the Modular Temporary Jetties/Platforms and Tourist Lodging Innsโ€”are going to be absolute game-changers for accessibility and comfort in our beautiful destinations.

Grasping this significance, Provincial Tourism Officer Rowena Tan-Sakir has been closely collaborating with our Municipal Tourism Officers (MTOs) to iron out the required paperwork for evaluation and approval.

We are delighted to announce that LGU Kalingalan Caluang is leading the charge! As of this writing, they have already completed and submitted all five (5) necessary documents for their project's evaluation and approval.

Hats off to the Kalingalan Caluang team for the incredible speed and efficiency! ๐Ÿ‘

What a Milestone for Sulu Tourism!

A massive, heartfelt thank you to the National Board of the Association of Tourism Officers in the Philippines (ATOP) for bringing your Quarterly Board Meeting (QBM) right here to our beautiful province.

To the ATOP Treasurer, Ms. Taj Mahal Esmali, who said, "Letโ€™s do Sulu"โ€”thank you for your incredible suggestion. To ATOP President Elric Batilaran and the entire national board, thank you for your trust and for not hesitating for a second to make this happen.

We hosted 22 brilliant tourism officers, watching you experienced the real and vibrant Sulu, had been unforgettable. You didn't just visit; your stories, photos, and genuine experiences have become the ultimate word-of-mouth marketing of our province, officially putting Sulu on the mainstream tourism map where it belongs.

The Provincial Tourism Office recently conducted a meeting and investigation today regarding the photos and videos of a touristโ€™s visit to Sulu posted by a TikTok account named โ€œkathhh.โ€

To set the record straight and provide clear facts, here are the findings from our investigation with the tour guide involved:

The Visit Happened in 2022: ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐ญ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ฎ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐’๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฎ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ (๐Ÿ’) ๐ฒ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ฌ ๐š๐ ๐จ, specifically on ๐Ž๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ-๐Ÿ๐Ÿ, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ.

It is a Throwback Post: The videos and photos currently circulating in Facebook are ๐ญ๐ก๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ๐›๐š๐œ๐ค ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐š๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ๐ž ๐ง๐จ๐ญ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฅ-๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ๐ž, which is why our office and our current Provincial Tourism Officer was not aware of the trip.

Guidelines Were Not Yet Strictly Implemented: The strict tourism guidelines (including the dress code for recreational waters and public aquatic facilities) were officially put in place and strictly enforced a year later, in 2023, under our esteemed former OIC Tourism Officer Maโ€™am Almira Burahan Jasim.

The Guide Was Not Yet Accredited Then: At the time of the trip in 2022, the tour guide was not yet ๐จ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ข๐œ๐ข๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐š๐œ๐œ๐ซ๐ž๐๐ข๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐›๐ฒ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐จ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ข๐œ๐ž. However, records show that since his official accreditation, he has religiously followed all protocols. He has a clean record and has not been involved in any other issues.

Conclusion & Action Taken:
Because this visit occurred in 2022โ€”prior to the implementation of current guidelines and before the office held jurisdiction over the guideโ€”we cannot retroactively penalize the parties involved. However, to respect our local culture and current policies, we have recommended the immediate take-down of the TikTok post (as of this writing, the post have been taken down already).

The Provincial Tourism Office remains committed to strictly enforcing our tourism guidelines. We continue to monitor compliance and will not hesitate to call the attention of erring guides or operators to preserve the cultural integrity of Sulu.

Letโ€™s be honestโ€”being Tausug means having a very high expectation when it comes to beaches. Why? Because our province has completely ruined our standards! ๐Ÿ˜…

While everyone else is saving up for months to visit overcrowded, over-commercialized "paradise" destinations, we grew up with the real deal right in our backyard.

Why weโ€™re hard to please:
The Sand: If it isn't that blinding, powdery fine white sand, we hesitate to step on it. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ
The Water: If it isn't crystal clear enough to see your future, itโ€™s just a โ€œregular pool" to us. ๐Ÿ’Ž
The Vibe: We don't do "over-developed." Give us those unspoiled, pristine shores where the only "noise" is the sound of the waves and the wind swaying the leaves of the coconut trees. ๐ŸŒด

In Sulu, nature doesn't need a filter or a luxury resort fee. It is raw, it is untouched, and it is truly Lupah Sug at its finest. We are beyond blessed to call this paradise home.
