The National Coordination Center against Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material (NCC-OSAEC-CSAEM), will be leading the Philippines’ Safer Internet Day celebration in February 2024, in partnership with Plan International Pilipinas, and with the support of UNICEF Philippines.
Safer Internet Day (SID) is being celebrated annually around the globe as a call to action to promote better and safer internet use for everyone. It was first introduced in 2004 in various countries in Europe and is currently being observed by more than 100 countries in the world to raise awareness on online issues, especially those encountered by children.
Domestically, SID had also been officially recognized through Proclamation No. 417, series of 2018, which declared every second Tuesday of February as the Safer Internet Day for Filipino Children.
For this year’s Safer Internet Day celebration, the NCC-OSAEC-CSAEM has adopted the localized country theme, "OSAEC at CSAEM ating sugpuin, implementasyon ng R.A. 11930 sama-samang patatagin!", which aims to increase public awareness on Republic Act No. 11930, or the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act and its Implementing Rules and Regulations. SID 2024 shall highlight the importance of online safety, promote responsible internet use, and raise awareness about the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital world to Filipino children.
At the heart of this year’s SID celebration are the voices of the children and the youth – we recognize their roles in creating a better and more secure internet environment, where everyone is safely empowered to use technology responsibly, ethically, critically, and creatively; and thereby amplifying their calls to action to the government, e-technology industry, parents, and child protection actors.
Together for a better internet.
