Instead of reading three pages of text, we've summarized the key directives into this easy-to-understand infographic for school heads, teachers, DRRM Coordinators, property custodians, and everyone committed to keeping our schools safe.

The Department of Education (DepEd) continues to strengthen fire safety compliance across schools nationwide. In 2025, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) recorded 26 fire incidents affecting DepEd schools, prompting the issuance of further directives to reinforce compliance with fire safety regulations.

DepEd Order No. 28, s. 2016 strengthened the implementation of the Fire Safety and Awareness Program (FSAP), originally established through DepEd Order No. 72, s. 2012 and reiterated in DepEd Order No. 13, s. 2013. The program promotes fire prevention awareness, preparedness, and compliance with safety standards across all schools.

In coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), schools are required to undergo fire safety inspections and comply with the provisions of the Revised Fire Code of the Philippines (RA 9514). Inspections are typically conducted during Brigada Eskwela and semestral breaks, with schools required to address identified violations and submit corresponding action plans.

Schools must also develop and implement a School Fire Safety Plan, which includes identifying fire hazards, ensuring unobstructed emergency exits, addressing electrical safety risks, organizing school fire brigades, and conducting regular fire drills and fire safety lectures for learners and personnel.
