๐ท๐๐๐๐๐๐ (๐บ๐ณ๐ท), continues to support grassroots economic initiatives with the implementation of a poultry-based livelihood project in Barangay San Martin.
The project, titled โ๐๐ก๐ข๐๐ค๐๐ง ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง,โ is being managed by the ๐๐๐ค๐ ๐๐ญ ๐๐๐ง ๐๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐ง ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ข๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง. Funded by DSWD-SLP, the initiative has a total project cost of โฑ600,000.00, aimed at providing sustainable income opportunities for local members.
A total of 480 layer chickens, each valued at approximately โฑ500, were distributed under the program. The Ready-to-Lay (RTL) chickens were delivered on December 14, 2025, with egg production officially commencing on February 6, 2026.
Within its initial weeks of operation, the project recorded an income of โฑ10,290.00 from February 6 to February 28, 2026. Production further improved in April, reaching an estimated 85% to 95% laying rate, indicating strong potential for profitability.
However, despite promising production levels, the association continues to face several operational challenges. Among the primary concerns is the delayed egg-laying performance of the RTL chickens, which affected early income generation. As a result, members struggled to sustain feed purchases due to insufficient earnings.
Additionally, the group reported the absence of stable and permanent buyers, forcing them to sell eggs at relatively low market prices. This issue is further compounded by the rising cost of poultry feeds, significantly affecting overall profit margins.
Despite these setbacks, the association remains optimistic, aiming to establish stronger market linkages and improve financial sustainability in the coming months.
Local stakeholders are encouraged to support community-based livelihood initiatives such as this, which play a vital role in strengthening rural economies and empowering grassroots organizations.
