"Hansel and Gretel" is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm and published in 1812 in Grimm's Fairy Tales. Hansel and Gretel are brother and sister abandoned in a forest, where they fall into the hands of a cannibalistic witch who lives in a house made of gingerbread, cake, and pastries.

Throughout Hansel and Gretel the moral of the story is don't trust strangers and don't disobey your parents. The witch in the story tries to lure the children into her home - “Do come in, and stay with me.
