FIRST FEMALE AETA LICENSED CRIMINOLOGIST RECOGNIZED BY NCIP AND PRC

The Professional Regulatory Board (PRB) of Criminology awarded a Special Certificate to Ms. Lady Anne G. Duya in recognition of her achievement as the first female Aeta who passed the Licensure Examination for Criminologists.

The NCIP, through Office on Education, Culture, and Health (OECH) Director Engr. Mary Grace P. Buasen and Education and Culture Development Division (ECDD) Chief, Ms. Jordine Rose R. Ocon, also gave a Certificate of Recognition and tokens to Ms. Duya. Additionally, a set of Coffee Table Books was turned over to the PRB of Criminology.

NCIP CONVENES WITH THE AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY FOR POSSIBLE PARTNERSHIP

11 April 2024 | Officials and representatives from the Australian Embassy paid a visit to the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples to identify areas of partnerships.

Australian Embassyโ€™s First Secretary for Economic, Mr. Alfredo Guevara, along with Ms. Abigail Bakker, Second Secretary for Development, discussed with Chairperson Jennifer Pia Sibug-Las and Executive Director Mervyn H. Espadero the ongoing and upcoming programs of the Australian Embassy that NCIP can be a part of to further enhance its service to the Indigenous Peoples.

During the meeting, brief information about the Social Protection, Inclusion and Gender equality (SPRING) program and the Economic Development program of the Australian Government were tackled. Details about the Australian Awards Program were also discussed to possibly enhance the capability of NCIP employees through short courses and exchange of knowledge with international counterparts. And the establishment of a research database was raised, underscoring its relevance and importance in implementing any development project.

As a way ahead, NCIP shall create a design team, that will closely work with the Australian Embassy, for the formulation and implementation of its Economic Development Project. Also, NCIPโ€™s Office on Empowerment and Human Rights (OEHR) was tasked to closely coordinate with their Australian counterparts to discuss the Commissionโ€™s participation in the SPRING program.

To cap the meeting, NCIP provided a copy of Project Epanaw Coffee Table Book and 2022 NCIP Annual Report to its Australian partners.

Other participants of the meeting are Foreign Assisted Programs and International Relations Office (FAPIRO) Director Dahlialyn Cawed, Administrative Service (AS) Director Atty. Josefina Rodriguez-Agusti, and OEHR Director Atty. Catherine Gayagay-Apaling.

NCIP ACCOMMODATED THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENTIAL ADVISER ON PEACE, RECONCILIATION, AND UNITY (OPAPRU)

3 April 2024 | To discuss further the collaborative efforts promoting unity and peace among Indigenous Cultural Communities and to strengthen the partnership, OPAPRU paid a visit to the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples.

During the visit, OPAPRU Executive Director for Peace Sustainability, Susana Guadalupe H. Marcaida opened the discussion for the formulation of a policy framework for the collaboration between the two agencies. Also, details about the PAMANA-funded projects assigned to NCIP and the current thrust of the government relative to peace and unity were also discussed.

Further, Executive Director Marcaida underscored the importance of addressing the wounds of conflict and the urgency to convene with the Education Cluster to address arising concerns.

As a response, NCIP led by Chairperson Jennifer Pia Sibug-Las and Executive Director Mervyn H. Espadero showcased its healing and reconciliation efforts to resolve conflicts among cultural communities. Subsequently, NCIP expressed its utmost support to the programs and projects of OPAPRU.

PRESS RELEASE OF NCIP RELATIVE TO THE SIGNING OF MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH GLOBAL GREEN GROWTH INSTITUTE

The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute, will be formalizing its partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

The main objective of the understanding is to provide a framework of cooperation and to facilitate collaboration between NCIP and GGGI including exchange of experience, technology, information, and human resources that will result in the promotion of sustainable development and the empowerment of Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples. Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization established in 2012 whose aim is to deliver transformational strategies in reducing poverty, environmental sustainability, and economic and inclusive green growth by supporting scalable and investable projects of developing, emerging, and least developed countries.

The ceremonial signing scheduled on February 22, 2024 at the Global Green Growth Institute Headquarters, Seoul, Republic of South Korea will be witnessed and participated by delegates from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples led by Ethnographic Commissioners Hon. Atty. Rhodex P. Valenciano and Hon. Gaspar A. Cayat along with the workforce of the Office on Socio-Economic Services and Special Concerns (OSESSC) of the agency. Further, key officers from partner National Government Offices namely Office of the President โ€“ Presidential Adviser on Climate Change Dr. Jeon Dae Gu and Climate Change Commission โ€“ Hon. Comm. Albert P. Dela Cruz Sr. will likewise be in attendance during the significant occasion.

In summary, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples recognizes the need for harmonious synergy between sustainable economic growth and cultural preservation. Thus, the agency strongly supports the partnership offered by GGGI for it will aid in the promotion of the interest and well-being of our ICCs/IPs with due regard to their beliefs, customs, traditions, and institutions.
