𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗: Key message from the statement of Congressman Jose Maria Zubiri Jr., during the 19th Congress 3rd Regular Session #17 - HB No. 10800 FY 2025 General Appropriations Bill Plenary Hearing on the proposed FY 2025 budget for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and its Attached and Supervised Agencies on 25 September 2024, Wednesday.
"They (Lumads) are Filipinos, maybe more Filipinos than us!
I beg that the Lumads will be given the right also for being Filipinos, to live a life like Filipinos should live.
My message is to wake up the people on how to help them."

National officials emphasized the importance of preserving and revitalizing indigenous traditions in the face of modernization and globalization.
During the regional celebration of Indigenous Peoples Month and commemoration of the 26th year of the Indigenous People’s Right Act on October 26, 2023, in Baguio City, Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rexlon Gatchalian, represented by DSWD – Cordillera Assistant Regional Director for Administration Enrique Gascon, called for unity in the preservation and further enrichment of the diverse cultural heritage and traditions of the country’s indigenous people and IP communities towards a better future under the Bagong Pilipinas envisioned by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Executive Director Mervyn Espadero also highlighted the significance of preserving and enriching the diverse cultural heritage of the indigenous communities in the country, especially in the Cordillera, which is predominantly populated by IPs.
