In the annals of Philippine military history, few stories capture the essence of duty, love, and brotherhood as profoundly as that of ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐ ๐จ๐ง๐จ ๐ ๐๐ซ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ ๐๐ (๐๐๐ญ) and ๐๐ข๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐๐ง๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ซ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐ซ๐๐จ ๐ ๐๐ซ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ ๐๐ (๐๐๐ญ). Born and raised in Balayan, Batangas, the Ermita brothers were nurtured by a family whose simple beginnings were enriched by faith, discipline, and an enduring devotion to service. They would go on to dedicate their lives to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, one as a healer and the other as a defender. Both leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of integrity, courage, and love of country.
COL Ermita MC (Ret), was a distinguished surgeon and officer of the Medical Corps who devoted his life to the noble pursuit of saving lives. He served with the hands of a healer and the heart of a soldier, mending not only wounds but spirits broken by battle. In every field hospital, in every mission, he carried with him the sacred promise to protect life amid the harshest realities of war. His kind of service was quiet but powerful, the sort that restores faith in humanity even in the darkest of times. To his colleagues and patients alike, he was more than a doctor; he was a man of compassion, wisdom, and steadfast dedication to the welfare of others.
LTGEN Ermita PA (Ret), the younger brother, followed a path equally defined by honor. A proud member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1957, he rose to become one of the countryโs most respected officers and civil servant. He served as The Deputy Chief of Staff, AFP, Secretary of National Defense, Congressman, 1st District of Batangas, and Executive Secretary under President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Yet beyond the titles and distinctions, he remained a man of quiet leadership and humility, a true statesman who believed that service to the nation must always be anchored on peace, integrity, and compassion. To his family, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a gentle patriarch whose wisdom inspired everyone around him.
On 18 October 2025, fate wrote one of the most moving chapters in their shared journey. Within mere hours of each other, the Ermita brothers, the healer and the warrior, answered their final call. It was as if God, in His infinite wisdom, decided that their journey of brotherhood and service should not be parted by time. The nation mourned two heroes, but heaven welcomed two souls who had already given their all. Their passing was not merely coincidence; it was a symbol of how deeply intertwined their lives were, from their first salute to their final rest. Two soldiers, two patriots, two brothers, leaving the world hand in hand, just as they had lived.
In the end, the story of COL Crisogono R Ermita MC (Ret) and LTGEN Eduardo R Ermita PA (Ret) is more than a tale of two soldiers. It is a testament to the enduring power of family, faith, and duty, of how love for oneโs brother and love for oneโs country can become one and the same. And as the sun set over Balayan that October day, it did not mark an ending, but a homecoming. For two brothers who lived for their country, and who left this world together, side by side, in peace.
