PNP STATEMENT ON THE ALLEGED INVOLVEMENT OF A POLICE OFFICER IN THE LAOS DRUG SHIPMENT

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has taken cognizance of the reported involvement of a female police officer in the shipment of 521 kilograms of suspected shabu intercepted in Laos.

As an immediate administrative measure, the officer was relieved from her post and placed under restrictive custody effective October 13, 2026, pending the outcome of the investigation. As part of the inter-agency task group, the PNP is working closely with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and other concerned agencies to establish the facts, identify those allegedly involved, and determine the extent of the officer’s alleged participation.

The PNP will not tolerate any involvement of its personnel in illegal drug activities. Police officers are duty-bound to uphold the law and protect the public, and any act that runs contrary to this responsibility will be dealt with accordingly. Should evidence establish the officer's involvement in illegal drug activities, appropriate criminal and administrative proceedings will be pursued in accordance with the law.

The PNP will continue to work closely with its partner agencies to ensure a thorough investigation. While the organization stands firm against any wrongdoing within its ranks, due process will be observed and conclusions will be based on evidence.

The PNP remains committed to the government's campaign against illegal drugs and to holding its personnel accountable when evidence establishes a violation of the law.

DAWLAH ISLAMIYA SUB-LEADER, THREE ESCORTS FALL IN MAGUINDANAO DEL NORTE CLASH

The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., neutralized a wanted sub-leader of the Dawlah Islamiya Hassan Group and his three escorts during a manhunt operation in Barangay Tapayan, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao del Norte, on October 16, 2026.

The accused was listed as the No. 4 Provincial Level Most Wanted Person in Maguindanao del Sur and was allegedly involved in bombing incidents in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, as well as killings, arson, and other atrocities in Maguindanao del Sur. He was also identified as a sub-leader of the Dawlah Islamiya Hassan Group under the Alpha King Group.

The operation stemmed from warrants of arrest issued by courts in Cotabato City, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur, and Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, in 2021 and 2023. The warrants covered Destructive Arson, Direct Assault, Multiple Frustrated Murder, Double Murder, Qualified Direct Assault with Multiple Attempted Murder, and violation of Republic Act No. 11479, or the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

During the operation, the accused and his three male escorts allegedly opened fire on the approaching operating team, prompting the personnel to return fire in self-defense. The ensuing armed encounter resulted in the deaths of all four men. Clearing operations subsequently yielded one assault r***e, three .45-caliber pistols, and one improvised explosive device (IED).

The operation involved the CIDG Cotabato City Field Unit, the Regional Special Operations Team of CIDG Regional Field Unit 15, Regional Intelligence Unit 15, the PNP Special Action Force, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the territorial police unit.

PGEN Nartatez emphasized the importance of decisive law enforcement action against individuals facing serious criminal charges.

“The PNP will remain relentless in pursuing terrorists who sow fear, threaten innocent lives, and undermine peace and security in our communities. We will take decisive action within the bounds of the law to prevent them from carrying out further violence,” he said.

“Hindi natin hahayaang manaig ang takot at karahasan. Titiyakin nating mananagot sa batas ang mga nagbabanta sa kaligtasan ng ating mga kababayan,” PGen Nartatez added.

The operation supports the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which strengthens intelligence-led efforts against terrorists and other security threats while upholding the rule of law.

As the PNP intensifies efforts to track down wanted individuals and prevent further threats to public safety under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it assures the public of its commitment to “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.”
