Today, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), through the Animal Health and Welfare Division (AHWD) and the National Rabies Prevention and Control Program (NRPCP), joins the nation and the global community in commemorating 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, carrying this year's theme, "𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫." 🤝🌏

Rabies remains a deadly but entirely preventable disease. 🎯 Through stronger collaboration among communities, Local Government Units (LGUs), animal health and public health professionals, educators, pet owners, and partner organizations, we can move closer to achieving the shared goal of 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐃𝐨𝐠-𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟑𝟎.

In the Philippines, rabies continues to be a public health and animal health concern, highlighting the importance of responsible pet ownership, regular vaccination of dogs and cats, immediate consultation following animal bites, and active community participation in rabies prevention and control efforts. 🩺

As we commemorate 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, let us strengthen our commitment to the One Health approach and work together to protect both people and animals from rabies.

African Swine Fever (ASF) continues to pose a significant threat to the Philippine swine industry, affecting animal health, livelihoods, and food security. While vaccination may serve as a complementary tool in ASF prevention and control, post-vaccination monitoring is essential to assess vaccine safety, field performance, and effectiveness under actual field conditions.

With the commercialization of ASF vaccine, the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Animal Industry, drafted the “Guidelines on the Implementation of Post-Vaccination Monitoring of ASF”, to establish a national framework for coordinated post-vaccination monitoring, supported by laboratory and genomic surveillance.

The draft guidelines take into consideration the relevant standards and recommendations of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), particularly the ASF Vaccine Standard and the Guidelines for ASF Vaccines: Field Evaluation and Post-Vaccination Monitoring.
