🌱 Expanding awareness of disaster preparedness among local communities.

An Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activity on the MHIBFEWS Project was conducted in New Bataan on May 21, 2026, bringing together 39 participants, including members of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) community.

The session introduced participants to the concepts of impact-based forecasting and early warning systems, highlighting the importance of understanding hazard impacts and taking timely action before disasters occur.

Generating science-based multi-hazard and climate risk information requires more than forecasts alone. It depends on a range of activities that help transform data into actionable insights.

Under Output 1 of the MHIBFEWS Project, efforts include strengthening observation networks, establishing hazard thresholds, developing probabilistic hazard maps and weather forecasts, generating localized hazard models, and building detailed exposure databases.

The project also supports the development of vulnerability and fragility curves, as well as risk analysis tools that help identify potential impacts before disasters occur.

Together, these activities provide the evidence base needed for impact-based forecasting and early warning systems, helping decision-makers and communities better understand risks and prepare for them.

🌱 Listening to communities to build more effective anticipatory action measures.

A validation survey was conducted from May 25 to 29 across various locations in Legazpi City to support the development of an Anticipatory Action Plan for communities exposed to imminent meteorological hazards.

A total of 426 respondents, including members of vulnerable sectors, participated in the survey and shared their experiences, preparedness practices, and local knowledge related to tropical cyclones.
