Laying down the foundations ๐
Did you know? The Bureau of Public Printing (now the National Printing Office) began its operations under a team of American printers led by its very first Director, the late John Sylvanus Leech.
As the Philippines transitioned from military rule to a civil government, Director Leech introduced vocational training as a core pillar of the Bureauโs mandate. This pioneering initiative laid the crucial foundation for an industry that would eventually nurture and produce highly skilled Filipino craftsmen.
Under his leadership, the Bureau introduced its Apprenticeship System, designed to train personnel to master the specialized arts of printing and bookbinding.
Today, these foundational skills remain at the heart of the NPO's enduring standard of excellence and public service to the Filipino people. ๐ต๐ญ
