Iilan pa lamang ito sa mga nais nating maisabatas na mga panukala para sa karapatan at kapakanan ng bawat babae. At hindi pa kasama rito ang mga naipanalong ordinansa ng mga mambabatas ng Akbayan Party sa mga lokal na pamahalaan! Mahaba pa ang laban. Tuloy pa rin tayo dahil 'pag Akbayan ang lumaban, panalo ang kababaihan! Happy International Women's Day!

NO TSUPER LEFT BEHIND: AKBAYAN! YOUTH STATEMENT ON JEEPNEY PHASEOUT

Ngayon ang unang araw ng malawakang transport strike ng mga tsuper bilang protesta sa nakaakmang jeepney phaseout na lubos na makakaapekto sa kanilang araw araw na paghahanapbuhay. Naniniwala ang Akbayan! Youth na kailangang siguruhin ng gobyerno na walang tsuper ang maiiwanan. Kung ang nais ng pamahalaan ay progreso, hindi dapat ang mga tsuper ang magsakripsiyo.

Dagdag pa rito, kaakibat ng modernisasyong hinahangad ng pamahalaan ay ang posibilidad na pagtaas ng pamasahe para mabayaran ng mga tsuper ang modernized jeepney. Kaya hindi lamang ang mga tsuper ang apektado sa nakaambang polisiyang ito, pati na rin ang mga komyuterlalong-lalo na ang mga estudyante at mga manggagawa.

Naniniwala ang Akbayan! Youth na dapat kasama ang mga transport workers sa pagbubuo ng just transition plan at isiguro na maayos at makatao ang magiging karansan ng mga komyuter sa pagpapatupad ng plano.

Sinusuportahan ng Akbayan Youth ang panawagan ng mga transport workers at komyuters:
1. Maayos na subsidiya mula sa gobyerno para sa mga tsuper at mga kooperatiba sa acquisition costs ng bagong units
2. Maayos at malinaw na koordinasyon sa pagitan ng mga ahensya, transport workers at komyuter groups sa implementasyon ng modernization.
3. Pagrereview sa consolidation at subsidy requirements ng mga kooperatiba para hindi perwisyo para sa mga transport workers at operators

Kung kalakip ng naiisip ng gobyerno ang “pag-unlad” ay pagsakripisyo sa ating mga kababayan, hindi ito matatawag na tunay na pag-unlad. Walang tsuper ang dapat na maiwanan.

STATEMENT OF AKBAYAN PARTY ON THE JEEPNEY PHASEOUT

The road to modernity must not deepen inequality.

While we in Akbayan Party recognize the need to improve the state of our jeepneys for the benefit of our citizens, we firmly believe that it is important to anchor every step we make on social justice and the dignity of every individual, including and especially our jeepney drivers. The goal of a modernized transport system isn’t limited to raising the standards of our technology. Like all aspirations for a better society, the end goal is always the creation of social systems that pave the way to a brighter future for every citizen, most especially those at the margins.

In this light, we call on the present administration to work with transport groups and cooperatives towards the formulation of a more equitable and just transition plan. Specifically, the government must implement a worker-led and state-subsidized jeepney modernization program that combines state regulation and incentives with the best practices and experiences from cooperativism. This also means that the public sector should procure modern jeepneys and directly hire transport workers as employees, while cooperatives do the same. The administration also needs to secure a larger allotment in the national budget which will further empower our transport workers to acquire new jeepney units, and contribute to the modernization of transport as a whole.

Just as there are many roads to get to a desired destination, we firmly believe that open dialogue, people-centered planning, intelligent and rights-based reform, and a climate-responsive just transition can always open a path to progress. Transport as a public service is about moving people. Let us ensure that even as we strive towards a better daily experience for every Filipino commuter, we remember that every transport worker is also a part of that journey. No one must be left behind.

Hirap na hirap na yung mga kababayan natin bumili ng pagkain at gamot sa ngayon. Instead of helping Filipinos afford everyday needs, we will be making it even harder for everyone.

This so-called Maharlika Fund is setting off many alarm bells. Long-term consequences will be felt if we establish a sovereign wealth fund prematurely.
