Following the success of its debut session, the AmBag Anniversary Lecture Series returned on May 23, 2025, with its second installment titled "Dugsong: Mga Tinipong Kwento ng Klima mula sa Oscar M Lopez (OML) Center," presented by Ms. Kato Sarmiento.

During her talk, Ms. Sarmiento emphasized the documentary "Mga Kwento ng Klima," a 60-minute film that showcases how storytelling and filmmaking can be powerful tools in promoting climate awareness and resilience among the broader public.

Meet our next AmBag speaker!

Our second speaker for the anniversary lecture series is Ms Katherine Mae Sarmiento. She will share stories and insights on communicating climate science and the work they do at OML Center.

Ms Kato Sarmiento is the partnerships manager at the Oscar M. Lopez Center for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management Foundation and works closely with experts and collaborators to expand the reach of science-based climate communications and actionable knowledge.

The OML Center, established in 2012, is a non-profit organization focused on advancing research and innovative solutions for climate change adaptation and disaster risk management in the Philippines.

After seeing MO’s destruction in 1945, Father Miguel Selga, S.J., its venerable Director at the time, wrote the following touching epitaph:

“Estos, alma, ay dolor! que ves ahora
Campus de soledad, monton de escombros,
Fueron un tiempo cupula famosa.”

“These fields of solitude, alas!
My soul, you see, this mound of rubbish,
once upon a time a famed observatory.”
