PNP ADVANCES CYBERCRIME ENFORCEMENT, VICTIM PROTECTION AMID CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH
Protecting Filipinos in cyberspace requires more than caution when using the internet. It also demands effective investigation, coordinated law enforcement, and timely intervention when people become victims of online-related offenses, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said as it observes Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October.
Under the leadership of Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief PNP, the PNP, through the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), continues to pursue cybercrime-related operations while encouraging the public to take an active role in protecting themselves and their families online.
From August 26, 2025, to October 8, 2026, ACG recorded 1,539 arrested persons or accused and 284 rescued children in conflict with the law (CICL), minors, and other victims. During the same period, the group conducted 789 entrapment operations, implemented 53 warrants to search, seize, and examine computer data, and provided technical assistance to other PNP units on 218 occasions.
For October 2 to 8, 2026, alone, ACG reported 26 arrested persons or accused and eight rescued CICL, minors, and other victims. It also conducted 15 entrapment operations, implemented two computer data warrants, and provided technical assistance to other PNP units eight times.
These operational accomplishments highlight the importance of specialized investigative capabilities and inter-unit coordination in addressing cybercrime and protecting individuals who may be vulnerable to online exploitation and other offenses.
Chief PNP PGen Nartatez emphasized that public awareness remains an important part of the country's cybersecurity efforts.
“Sa online world, hindi sapat na marunong lang tayong gumamit ng technology. Kailangan din nating maging maingat sa mga taong nakakausap natin, sa links na binubuksan, at sa impormasyong ibinabahagi natin. Kapag may kahina-hinala, huwag magmadaling mag-click o magpadala ng pera—verify muna at i-report kung kinakailangan,” PGen Nartatez said.
The PNP advises internet users to be wary of messages that pressure them to act immediately, offers that appear too good to be true, suspicious links, and requests for passwords, personal information, or one-time passwords (OTPs). Online identities and payment instructions should be independently verified through official channels before any money or sensitive information is shared.
Parents and guardians are also encouraged to maintain open communication with children about their online activities, recognize signs of possible exploitation, and report suspected abuse or threats through appropriate authorities. Those who encounter suspected cybercrime should preserve relevant messages, screenshots, transaction records, and other available evidence to assist investigators.
The PNP's efforts are aligned with its Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), which emphasizes effective and coordinated police action. These initiatives also support the broader public-safety priorities of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., including the protection of Filipinos against evolving threats in both physical and digital spaces.
With this year's Cybersecurity Awareness Month theme, “A People-Centered Approach to a Resilient Philippine Cyberspace,” the PNP calls on families, schools, businesses, and communities to make online safety a shared responsibility.
A safer cyberspace depends on both capable law enforcement and informed citizens. By staying vigilant, protecting personal information, and reporting suspicious activities, Filipinos can help prevent harm and contribute to a more secure digital environment.
The PNP remains committed to protecting the public through responsive and coordinated police service, guided by its vision of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”
