4Ps island boy makes Top 10 in 2026 LET
Testimony by Jerald B. Loyola

CONCEPCION, Iloilo โ This is not just the story of my lifeโa boy who came from a small island in northern Iloiloโbut a reflection of reality and the rewards of perseverance, hard work, and faith.
Despite poverty, hunger, and loss, I refused to give up. Instead, I transformed every struggle into strength and every dream into reality.
I am Jerald B. Loyola, once a Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) monitor child, and now a licensed professional teacher. In fact, not just a license but I proudly secured 10th place in the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers in March 2026.
To know how my life is going, let me share my story. I am the youngest of five siblings and the proud son of Marly Loyola, a hardworking farmer and food vendor from the island of Tambaliza in this town.
At a young age, I lost my father, and all responsibility fell on my mother's shoulders. Life was extremely difficult. There were days when we barely had enough food on the table, and nights when we studied under dim light because electricity was a luxury. My mother worked tirelessly, selling food and farming, just to make ends meet.
For us, poverty means walking long distances to school with worn-out slippers, sharing notebooks with siblings, and sometimes going to class on an empty stomach. But I never allowed hardship to stop me from going to school or reaching for my dreams.
With the help of 4Ps, I was able to finish both elementary and high school. I then pursued my college education in my hometown, enrolling in the Bachelor of Elementary Education program at Northern Iloilo State University โ Concepcion Campus.
As a student from the island, I faced struggles once again, traveling back and forth just to attend classes in the mainland with an allowance barely enough to cover fare, food, and school supplies. Yet, despite these challenges, I persevered. After four years of hard work and determination, I graduated Magna Cum Laude. That honor was proof of my commitment to my dream.
Soon after, I took the Licensure Examination for Teachers. I paired my hard work with faith, and by Godโs grace, I passed the board exam and became a Top 10 LET Passer.
My journey is a testament that poverty is not a hindrance to success. With perseverance, support from programs like 4Ps, and trust in God, dreams can be achieved. To God be the highest glory. (Submitted by Sharon Aguilario ML Concepcion MOO, Iloilo POO)
