HEARTH FOR SISTERS is a thesis project by two Multimedia Arts students of the De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde.
- HEARTH FOR SISTERS -
The project title was inspired by joining the words heaven and earth which then creates a homey feel to the title, similar to what we want our audience to feel as they get to know more about the elderly sisters residing in the Queen of Peace Convent.
- What’s the problem? -
The Philippines is known to be a very religious country. Roman Catholicism is known to be the pred
ominant religion here with estimates of approximately 87% of the population belonging to this faith in the Philippines. But, did you know that for a religious sister, entering the ministry means totally separating and leaving behind their blood relatives. Even once they grow sick or come of age for retirement, these sisters don’t go back home to their families and choose to stay with the church. This is the practice being followed by the ICM sisters. For them, once they are no longer fit to do missionary work or other tiring service, they enter a home provided by their congregation which in the case of the ICM sisters in the Philippines is the Queen of Peace Convent located in Quezon City.
- What’s the project? -
In order to spread awareness about the practices these sisters follow, the proponents have come up with a project that seeks to address the problems that come with the usage of retirement homes especially for the ICM sisters of the QoPC. Another goal this project aims to meet is to be able to encourage people to give their support to the sisters either through donation (for their basic needs’ expenses) or doing volunteer work for the home.
