Rehabilitation aid fuels Pisay CVC rebuild after Uwan
The Philippine Science High School-Cagayan Valley Campus in Nueva Vizcaya (PSHS-CVC) has received a ₱2 million rehabilitation fund from the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Government following the devastation brought by Typhoon Uwan in November 2025.
The assistance comes in response to the severe damage sustained by the campus, particularly in key facilities such as academic buildings, dormitories, the library, and gymnasium. Located in a mountainous area in Nueva Vizcaya, PSHS-CVC experienced violent winds and torrential rains that left most of the campus infrastructure heavily affected.
The ₱2 million rehabilitation fund will support the school’s ongoing recovery efforts, helping restore facilities and ensure the continuity of quality STEM education for its scholars.
The PSHS-CVC is set to begin infra rehabilitation efforts, Campus Director Dr. Harold V. Gallo shared that reconstruction will begin as soon as possible, following standard government processes.
Dr. Gallo also expressed the community’s appreciation for the support extended to the campus. “Para ito sa mga scholars at empleyado. While we were heavily devastated by Uwan, we remain resilient in rebuilding stronger.” he said.
The DOST-PSHS System extends its sincere gratitude to the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Government through Governor Jose "Jing" Gambito for its timely support to education and resilience in times of crisis.

| Pisay Aligns 16 Campuses Toward Smart, Secure Digital Future
The DOST-Philippine Science High School (PSHS) System convened its campus ICT leaders for the PSHS System ICT Standards and Smart Campus Roadmap Summit 2026, held from April 20 to 24 at the Philippine Science High School - Main Campus in Diliman, Quezon City.
For a more connected Pisay experience, this Summit brought together information systems administrators, technology officers, and key officials across all 16 campuses to work on developing modern, seamless, and future-ready learning environment powered by stronger cybersecurity and data protection programs.
With unified ICT standards across all campuses, Pisay students can expect smoother access to platforms like learning management systems, admissions portals, and academic records. Pisay students can also work with tools that are closer to what professionals use with cloud systems, data infrastructure, and smart campus frameworks in place.
The summit featured a series of technical sessions, workshops, and roadmap development activities toward a shared Smart Campus vision led by industry experts and practitioners in cloud computing, network infrastructure, and enterprise systems.
Among the resource speakers was Engr. Sean Alegre, a seasoned technology leader who shared insights on building scalable network infrastructures and enterprise connectivity solutions. Drawing from his experience in telecommunications and enterprise systems, Alegre highlighted the importance of resilient and future-ready network architecture in supporting digital institutions.
Also joining the summit was Dr. Zenon Saavedra, who discussed multi-cloud systems, data engineering, and the role of automation in enabling efficient and scalable digital operations. His sessions emphasized the integration of cloud technologies and data systems to support modern academic environments.
Cloud engineering and infrastructure sessions were further reinforced by Mr. Aaron Justin Dorado and Mr. John Chris Constantino, who led hands-on discussions on AWS deployment, DevOps practices, and designing high-availability systems tailored for institutional needs.
Throughout the summit, participants collaborated on drafting campus-specific ICT roadmaps, aligning them with the broader PSHS master plan. They also focused on harmonizing information systems, strengthening identity and access management, and establishing baseline cybersecurity standards across campuses.
In her message, PSHS System Executive Director Dr. Ronnalee N. Orteza emphasized the importance of unified digital systems in delivering quality STEM education, noting that a strong ICT backbone is essential in preparing Pisay students for a rapidly evolving, technology-driven future.
By the end of the summit, participating campuses presented their initial roadmap outputs and contributed to the consolidation of a systemwide ICT standards framework as groundwork for synchronized implementation beginning School Year 2026–2027.

IN THE NEWS | PISAY ALUMNA LEADS DEVELOPMENT OF SEXUAL ASSAULT INVESTIGATION KIT
A major breakthrough in forensic science is set to strengthen the pursuit of justice for sexual assault survivors in the Philippines. A r**e kit developed by researchers from the University of the Philippines will now enable the genetic identification of perpetrators as evidence admissible in court.
Dr. Maria Corazon A. De Ungria, a proud alumna of the Philippine Science High School - Main Campus in Diliman, Quezon City, Batch 1985, is a leading figure in forensic molecular biology and DNA analysis in the country. Through her work, DNA evidence has become a powerful tool in supporting the Philippine criminal justice system.
The initiative traces back to 2003, when University Research Associate Frederick Delfin began developing the kit. The work was later advanced by Dr. De Ungria and her team, leading to the creation of a refined Sexual Assault Investigation Kit or SAI.Kit. After years of testing and validation, the kit is now ready for public use and will be commercially released in partnership with Manila Healthtek Inc.
Sexual assault survivors can now genetically identify perpetrators with a r**e kit developed by researchers from the University of the Philippines.
The kit contains the tools needed for health professionals to collect samples that can be used as admissible evidence in court. Apart from the tools, the kit also has forms that document patient narratives, consent, details of samples collected, and the chain of custody. This ensures that the integrity and validity of the sample will hold up in court.
In order to effectively collect evidence, patients are advised to visit a healthcare facility within 72 hours, as this is the timeframe for biological evidence to remain in the body.
University Research Associate Frederick Delfin started developing the kit in 2003, with the goal of genetically identifying the assaulter. Later, Dr. Maria Corazon A. De Ungria and her team continued to develop a prototype of a sexual assault investigation kit (SAIK).
It was only this year, after decades of testing, validating, and researching, that a more refined version of the kit is now available for public use. It is now rebranded as the SAI.Kit, which will be commercially released in partnership with Manila Healthtek Inc this year.
