MARKET LINKAGE CARAVAN -- As a strategy to address the mismatch between demand and production, and to encourage farmers to engage in market-oriented production, the Department of Agriculture- Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service (AMAS), in partnership with the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) MIMAROPA and the Farm and Fisheries Clustering and Consolidation Program, conducted a Market Linkage Caravan in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, from March 18 to 20, 2025.
The event was attended and participated by 60 participants, including ten (10) farmer cooperatives and associations (FCAs), representatives from the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Agriculture Office, City Agriculture Office, and nine (9) institutional buyers.
According to Ms. Joyce Bengo, Chief of the Market Development Division of DA AMAS, the aim of the Market Linkage Caravan is to enhance direct connections between producers and consumers, promote proactive marketing systems through collaboration among farmers and fishers, and work with local government units (LGUs) to link production planning with current market requirements.
Mr. Rustom Gonzaga, Section Head of the AMAD Market Development Section, emphasized that promoting market-driven production through direct connections between our farmers and producers with institutional buyers such as processors, supermarkets, hotels, wholesalers, and consolidators will provide farmers the opportunity to understand the products they should produce in line with market demand.
The Market Linkages Caravan was attended by institutional buyers including Soyuz Foods International Inc., Kitchen Witchery Food Ventures Inc., Sureste Properties Inc., Leslie Corporation, IKitchen, Inc., and LM Mercado Agri-Farms, who presented their product requirements and specifications, while Marigold Manufacturing Corporation (Mama Sitas), Prime Global Corp, and Agro-Digital PH presented via online.
One of the components of the activity was one-on-one networking to exchange contact details for further discussion, explore potential transactions, and provide opportunities to connect with potential marketing contracts. There was also a visit to farms at Bansud Livestock Multi-Purpose Cooperative and Naujan Multi-Purpose Cooperative. The Market Linkage Caravan also featured a mini-trade fair aimed at promoting processed products developed by the Provincial Agriculture Office of Oriental Mindoro and product samples from various FCAs such as calamansi, red and white onions, rice, and eggs.
