Alfredo Mahar Lagmay (BS Geology, 1987; MS Geology, 1993) - Geologist and executive director, Project NOAH

As a renowned Filipino geologist and a key figure in disaster management, Mahar Lagmay has long been known for his leadership in NOAH Center, the nation’s premier disaster prevention institution. With a doctorate from the University of Cambridge and over 70 peer-reviewed publications, his extensive research on natural hazards has been instrumental in shaping the Philippines’ risk reduction strategies.

UP NIGS proudly celebrates the newly conferred and renewed UP Scientists under the UP Scientific Productivity System Cycle 2024–2026. We congratulate our Scientist III awardees: Dr. Carla B. Dimalanta, Dr. Jillian Aira S. Gabo-Ratio, Dr. Noelynna T. Ramos, and Dr. Alfredo Mahar Francisco A. Lagmay, and to our Scientist I awardee, Dr. Leo T. Armada.

Their commitment to advancing geoscience research, innovation, and public service continues to strengthen the Institute and inspire the NIGS community.
