QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES โ The River Basin Control Office (RBCO) warmly welcomed H.E. Ambassador-designate of Slovenia to the Philippines, Dr. Smiljana Knez, to the DENR Central Office yesterday, February 11, 2025. Executive Director Sevillo D. David Jr. and Director Nelson V. Gorospe of the RBCO received the Ambassador.
In preparation for Slovenian Foreign Minister H.E. Tanja Fajon's forthcoming visit in early March, a meeting was held to explore potential areas of collaboration, focusing specifically on river basin management, which is also an area of special interest to the Minister. The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss shared challenges in river basin management, including flooding, transboundary issues, access to safe drinking water, pollution, solid waste management and renewable energy generation through hydropower. Discussions focused on the RBCOโs major programs and projects aligned with the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028. Among the initiatives highlighted was the Water Supply-Micro Hydropower System Development Program, which will integrate micro-hydropower to provide both clean water and renewable energy to upland communities. Upscaling the implementation of activities incorporating concepts in Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) in major river basins were also highlighted. RBCO then shared its future plans for advancing river basin management in the country.
RBCO looks forward to continued dialogue and future cooperation with the Embassy of Slovenia to the Philippines in pursuit of their shared goal of well-managed river basins.
