The National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) successfully conducted its Basic First Aid Training from September 15-16 and 21-24, 2026, culminating in the certification of 20 employees as Emergency First Responders (EFRs).
The 48-hour training program provided participants with essential life-saving knowledge and practical skills through lectures, hands-on exercises, demonstrations, and competency assessments. Key topics covered include First Aid Principles and Practices, Common Medical Emergencies, Bandaging, Splinting, Patient Movement and Transportation, and Basic Life Support (BLS). Participants also underwent written and practical examinations to validate their competency and readiness to respond effectively during medical emergencies, workplace incidents, and disaster situations.
Among the newly certified EFRs, 12 are male and 8 are female, representing 14 employees from the Head Office, 1 from Baguio, 2 from Cebu, and 3 from Davao. Formerly known as "First Aiders," these personnel are now recognized as Emergency First Responders, reflecting their expanded role in providing immediate care and support until professional medical assistance becomes available.
This achievement further strengthens TransCo's emergency preparedness and disaster response capability. Prior to the training, the corporation had 22 trained Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel under its Disaster Control Brigade. With the addition of the 20 newly certified EFRs, TransCo now has a total of 42 trained emergency response personnel prepared to support medical and disaster response operations throughout the organization.
The integration of EFRs and EMS personnel enhances the effectiveness of the Disaster Control Brigade by establishing a larger and more coordinated emergency response workforce. This initiative underscores TransCo's commitment to workplace safety, employee welfare, disaster resilience, and organizational readiness, in line with the Public Service Continuity Plan (PSCP).
The training was facilitated by Mr. Arjay Santiago of the Valenzuela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (VCDRRMO) with the TransCo Health and Safety Team composed of Yvonne Dominique Cortez, Miguelito R. Cristobal, and Leah Marie T. Belen, whose dedication and support contributed significantly to the successful implementation of the program.
