On April 1, 1886, the first group of missionaries sailed from the port of Barcelona, Spain and arrived in Manila on May 13, 1886 on board the ship Isla de Panay. They were warmly received by the Dominicans and stayed with the Franciscans in Intramuros until they settled down in Palacio Street where the chapel dedicated to the Divina Pastora was built.

The rest is history and you are a witness to it.

This marked a significant step in empowering local vocations and strengthening the Filipino identity within the global Capuchin Order. Since then, the friars have touched countless lives through parishes, mission areas, formation houses, social ministries, and spiritual guidance.

Prayer:
Lord God, we thank You for the gift of the Capuchin Presence in the Philippines.. Through trials and triumphs, You have sustained them with Your love and guided their path with Your light. Bless all the friarsโ€”past, present, and futureโ€”with wisdom, humility, and courage. May they continue to be faithful witnesses of the Gospel and instruments of peace in our world. Amen.

Iglesia Parroquial de San Josรฉ Obrero
San Jose del Monte, Bulacan

SAN JOSE DEL MONTE CHURCH (St. Joseph the Worker Parish)

The church was built by the Franciscans in 1751 under the patronage of San Jose de Obrero (St. Joseph the Worker) using cogon and bamboos with its first parish priest, Fray Estevan Gadea. It was then only a visita of the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Meycauayan, Bulacan. Because the church sits on a mountain area the place was called San Jose del Monte.
