QUEZON CITY, August 13, 2026 |The East Avenue Medical Center strengthened its partnership with community stakeholders through Barangayan 2026, an initiative spearheaded by the Medical Social Work Department headed by Ms. Elisa A. Abellar, carrying the theme “Ugnayan at Balikatan Tungo sa Malusog na Komunidad at Mamamayan.”

More than an information-sharing activity, Barangayan 2026 highlighted the value of ugnayan at balikatan, or connection and collective action, in making healthcare services more accessible to patients and their families. The activity brought together hospital professionals and community partners to build stronger understanding of available services, referral pathways, and support mechanisms.

The program opened with remarks from Dr. Alfonso G. Nuñez III, Medical Center Chief II, followed by discussions on navigating healthcare services.

Dr. Grace S. Verzosa, Head of the Public Health Unit, discussed public health services and patient referral pathways. Dr. Albert G. Felix, Medical Officer III, presented PhilHealth YAKAP (Yaman ng Kalusugan) and its preventive primary care benefits. Meanwhile, Dr. Geoffrey J. Corpuz, ER Vice Chairman, discussed emergency services and proper access to emergency care.

The afternoon sessions focused on specialized and support services. Dr. Mary Clare Soliman, Head of the Cancer Care Center, discussed cancer care navigation and access to treatment and support. Meanwhile, Dr. Mary Jane M. Geneta, Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit, presented services for survivors of abuse.

Discussions also covered social work and medical assistance, presented by Mr. Rowel B. Ariola, MSWD Training Officer, and medical records access and procedures, presented by Ms. Margielyn M. Griego, Administrative Officer I.

The program concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Rene Louie C. Gutierrez, Chief Health Program Officer, emphasizing the importance of sustained collaboration between healthcare institutions and the communities they serve.

Through Barangayan 2026, EAMC reinforced that healthcare is strengthened when communities and institutions work together. With ugnayan fostering stronger connections and balikatan encouraging shared responsibility, EAMC continues to build partnerships that help bring essential healthcare information and services closer to the people.

The Medical Social Work Department of East Avenue Medical Center, in partnership with the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, successfully conducted Sama-Sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat at the EAMC Pediatric Department last July 10, 2026. The activity brought together health education and compassionate service to promote proper nutrition and support the overall well-being of pediatric patients and their families.

The program featured an informative nutrition lecture by Mr. Daniel Michael O. Gildo, RND, who shared practical and easy-to-follow guidance on healthy eating and proper nutrition. Following the discussion, pediatric patients and their families received nutritious meals, milk, snacks, and toys through the generosity of our partner organizations, making the activity both educational and meaningful for everyone involved.

The Medical Social Work Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, Sinag Foundation, Matang Agila Mandaragit Eagles Club, and the Rotary Club of San Roque for their invaluable partnership and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of our young patients.

Together, we continue to prove that when healthcare professionals and community partners work hand in hand, we can nourish not only the body but also bring comfort, hope, and joy to the children and families we serve.

Cancer treatment often comes with challenges that extend beyond medical care. For many patients, long travel hours, transportation expenses, and the need for temporary accommodation can add to the burden of an already demanding treatment journey.
To help address these challenges, East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC), through the Medical Social Work Department and the Cancer Assistance Fund (CAF), continues to strengthen its patient support services through the SILONG Program. Guided by its commitment to “𝙀𝙭𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙚, 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘿𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙗𝙮 𝙂𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘽𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙 𝙃𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩,” the initiative provides temporary lodging assistance to eligible cancer patients and their authorized caregivers.

At the heart of the SILONG Program is the provision of temporary accommodation at Verjandel Hotel for qualified patients who reside more than fifty (50) kilometers from EAMC. To further support beneficiaries throughout their treatment, the program also provides transportation services between the hotel and the hospital. By offering safe and comfortable accommodation along with reliable transport assistance, the program helps ease the burden of travel and lodging expenses, enabling patients and their caregivers to focus on treatment, recovery, and overall well-being.

More than a place to stay, the SILONG Program reflects EAMC's commitment to holistic and patient-centered care. It recognizes that healing extends beyond hospital walls and that meaningful support involves addressing the practical challenges patients and their families face throughout the course of treatment.

As featured in this video, interested patients and caregivers may learn more about the step-by-step availment process, eligibility requirements, and assessment procedures administered by the Medical Social Work Department.

Through the SILONG Program, EAMC reaffirms its commitment to compassionate and patient-centered care.
